~ To Do List ~ for new PPC owners (registry hack suggestions, etc)

So you just received your brand new shiny PPC-6700, what should you do FIRST?

-Activate
-Enable Data plan (pick the $15 power vision plan, nothing else despite what the rep may tell you)
-Purchase Phone Insurance

HARDWARE (pocketpctechs.com has some great stuff)
-Screen Protector
-MiniSD Card
-Case
-2.5-->3.5 mm Audio Adapter
-Car Mount

SOFTWARE
-Install Activesync (update)
-Install Outlook (update)
-"Fresh OS install" aka Remove Junkware (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...e&pagenumber=1)
-Total Commander (Need for above process) PPC version vs. Hand held Version? both seem to work (http://www.ghisler.com/wince2x.htm)
-PHM regedit - has been offline for awhile Alt Site
(http://www.phm.lu/)

-Microsoft Voice Command (40$ - can be found for cheaper...)
-Orb - Stream Multimedia from PC-->PPC (http://www.orb.com/)
-Skype - VOIP (http://skype.com/products/skype/pocketpc/)
-TCPMP - Video Player (http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about)
-Agile -IM (MSN, AIM, ICQ,XMPP) (*must use old version) (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...ighlight=agile)
-Magic Button - "Close Button" ACTUALLY closes Application - cool batt indicator too (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=7438)
-Metro (http://nanika.net/Metro/)
-wififofum WiFi Sniffer (http://www.aspecto-software.com/WiFiFoFum/)
-nullkeyboard Stops virtual keyboard from poppping up (http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/nullkeyboard.shtml)
...

HACKS
-Change IE hardkey to go to MY homepage (http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...ht=ie+homepage)
-IE Page Scroller with volume/rocker (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...ight=ie+scroll)
-glyphcache hack (increase graphics memory) - speeds up landscape<-->portrait mode (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...ght=glyphcache)
-CacheSize hack
-make TCMP default Media Player (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...917#post425917)
-Always On Data Hack (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...879#post428879)
-Speed up Ringer Response Time (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...r&pagenumber=2)
-Remove System Tray (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...threadid=60769)
-Stop ActiveSync from turning on Automatically (http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...threadid=60676)

-export/backup registry (PHM regedit) so you don't have to go thru ALL of the above hacks after a hard reset (guess how I learned this one? )

*...ONE of the above hacks is causing my radio indicators setting to not "light up" when turned on
** removing the wifi indicator from today page (sys tray) is the culprit

"Other"
PRL update - call "*2", may have to talk to a sprint rep, and ask them to "flag your acct. for a prl update"

Find friends to show it off to.

-Sprint Business Connect and Active Sycn that way you can manage 2 Exchange mail accounts. Altho SBConn doesn't quite work yet.

Go to any Radio Shack, look in the cell phones section or ask the sales person for EGRIPS. Not expensive and plenty of them in a pack. Just add one big one to the back, one long skinny one along one side of the phone and one short skinny one to the other side (you'll see where they'll fit) and viola!

When I use Orb and WMP (on the ppc), anytime my PPC has to buffer the stream it drops out of Full Screen (for video). Does this happen to you?
I can't find if anyone else has this problem and/or if there's a fix....it's pretty irritating

I love Orb...and it works good with the 6700...but there is a problem with the current build of the software. You can't change channels if you are using an IR Blaster to change the channels on your set-top-box.

I've been involved in a thread with the developer of Orb on their forums. It's quite frusturating....you can only watch whatever channel it is currently on. This used to work okay...but then it was broken in the current build.

wow im using the current build and i can change channels all day long, im using a wintv media center edition tuner that comes with a ir tranciever and remote. the whole wintv 150 media center edition only cost $100 might be worth it to be able to change channels, as for the post above i watch all the television in full screen mode on my ppc-6700.

To stay over sized in WMP you have to select Menu, options, video, play when oversized.

This should fix the problem you are talking about.

Yeah...I'm using Windows XP Media Center Edition...which is part of the equation for the channel changing problem.
