xp won't recoginize the phone correctly

Well, I've synced alot of 6700's and never had this particular problem. I have a customer and when you install active sync and get to the point where you plug the phone in it recognizes it, but attaches it to the computer as a network adapter, so activesync never recognizes it when it searches through the usb connections.

Normally when I sync mine, it shows up in my connection page as a little pda icon all by itself, but on the customer laptop it shows up as a regular network connection and i'm pretty sure that is the problem. If anyone has seen this problem before or has any advice please post it here asap. thanks

Mine does too, and I think that is normal. It shows up as "Local Area Connection 4, Connected, Firewalled, Windows Mobile-based device #2". The network icon in my system tray (that shows up on initial connection) disappears and then then it proceeds to sync.
Did you check the ActiveSync settings to make sure it is set to "Allow USB connection" and "Allow connections to the following" (mine is COM4) and I have the "This computer is connected to" set for "Automatic".
