I downloaded Mortsaver, but I am unclear on how to set this up. Will using the defaults lock the keys? I am sorry if this has been covered someplace else, but I can't find it. I would appreciate any help with set up and explanations on what all it does. Also, does it cause any problems? I just got my 6700 on Saturday, and I hate to screw it up so soon! However, I noticed that it had dialed a couple of people on its on!!! Can't have that.

And that should do it for you! This way, your phone won't accidentally turn on, and at the same time you can still be notified of incoming calls/etc. However, I'm not sure if you will be notified of alarms - I haven't tested.
Enjoy - I switched from the Treo 650 some time ago as well. Glad you figured out that you needed to press the power button on top to activate MortSaver once the screen turned off. This is so that an accidental button press on the face of the device will not activate the standby screen.
I'm not sure if there's a way around it, but I tested last night and with mortsaver running, it kills the alarm. Well, not completely, the alarm still goes off for a fraction of a second and then mortsaver stops it.
Regarding battery life, yes, it does kill battery life faster. I believe the reason for this is that since it is an actively running application, the 6700 allocates more CPU speed. In a sense, it it pretending to hibernate in standby, but in reality it is active with just the LCD backlight turned off and the screen blanked out. It'll be interesting to see if this can be fixed at all, since it seems to depend on the design of the OS itself.
Because of this, I personally only use MortSaver when I'm listening to music at the gym, where I could accidentally press a button easily. Unfortunately, I've had to rely on just pressing the standby/off button at the top of the phone when at home or in the office, etc, and hope that it doesn't turn on by itself. Usually it stays off unless there is a notification, in which case, I turn it back off. I wish it was possible to assign something like a quick double-tap on the power button to turn the device on/off, and for it to stay off, or at least disable the front buttons when a notification comes in.
For some reason, my backlight was dimmed all the way down! That was the problem.
So, if I press the power button to turn off the screen, I am not using Mortsaver? I am wondering if I even need this application? I mainly want to dim the screen and carry the phone around with me without it dialing someone because it bumps something. If Mortsaver is not doing that, I want to uninstall it. I use an iPod to listen to music. The only thing I want this device for is the telephone and the high speed Internet. I just don't want the thing dialing people on its own!!!
Yeah, if you're just hitting the power button then MortSaver is not being used, so it can be prone to turning on when there's a notification. However, MortSaver is useful when you don't want the device to turn on when accidentally keys are pressed. The main disadvantage to MortSaver that people have found is that it uses more battery when it is running. To give you a comparison, with MortSaver running, and average use, I get about a full day of battery (24 hours +/- 1 hour). Without MortSaver running I get about 2.5 days under the same usage pattern.
If I turn it off using the power button, then theoretically I should not have keys that are pressed accidentally. Right? Maybe I don't need Mortsaver. I was probably misusing it when I first got it to dial those numbers. Trying to figure out if I even need Mortsaver!

well, i believe you should actually have both of the boxes checked under the power off/emergency exit.
it doesnt actually power-off, but brings the device to standby when you activate it. so when the device gets turned on, it will automatically turn mortsaver on (which is what you want to prevent any accidental presses).
i think that is why you all are not getting great battery life.
Interesting point about the power option, jaybert - I'll have to check it out.
Artemis, MortSaver can sometimes be more useful than just turning the power off because when the power is off (standby), a notification will automatically turn it back on, at which point accidental key presses are possible. However, MortSaver will not allow accidental key presses EVEN if a notification comes in.

well, thats the thing. you have it set so mortsaver turns on automatically when powered on. so when a notification comes, it turns back from standby, but mortsaver automatically starts and shuts down the device in 5 seconds if your keys are not pressed.
