Sound Issue Please Help

When I put wav files in the windos directory on my phone I cannot play them as notifications! I am able to play them in windows media and they are not more than 100k. I am not sure what I am doing wrong and have searched to no avail. Any tricks/tips would be appreciated!

Against my better judgement I tried putting the wav files in the windows and my documents folder to no avail. I can see the files in the sounds selection screen when I put them in the /windows folder but they do not play. Any help would be greatly appreciated

from the ms website...

"You are trying to play a file format that Windows Media Player 10 Mobile does not support (such as files with the extensions .avi, .divx, .m4a, .mpeg, .mpg, .ms-dvr, .ram, .wav, or .xvid)."

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e/faq.aspx#5_1

I would imagine if the mediaplayer can't play it, that the phone cant play it - can anyone confirm?
