What is WM5's difference?

I am new to the PPC world(coming from a line of Treo's). I wanted to buy a 6600, but was told that WM5 was the future. So I bought this phone, yet the majority of the apps that give the device maximum functionality are incompatible(i.e. phonealarm, PIEplus). So basically, what can WM5 do that previous PPC versions couldnt?

WM5 may be the future, but it is still going through its growing pains. There are a lot of threads discussing the differences in other PPC phone forums...

I wouldn't say that WM5 is much of an improvement, in that it requires newer and faster hardware/memory in order to be as equally fast as WM2003.

data/programs on WM5 devices are stored in flash ROM so you never have to worry about losing your data due to battery failure like on WM2003(SE) devices. One-handed navigation is significantly improved over the previous version. A Powerpoint viewer is included and pocket word and excel contain more functionality than the previous versions such that word/excel documents you create on your PC will be more faithflly reproduced on a WM5 device. Future ROM upgrades to WM5 devices will also add true push email functionality to WM5 devices. these are some of the major improvements over 2003SE devices, I'm sure there are a lot of other minor ones I failed to mention. If you google for reviews on Windows Mobile 5.0, I'm sure you'll find even more information about what's new and improved.

Thanks Marty! mfizzel I have done searches and gotten bits and pieces of the functionality differences, I was just wondering if anyone here had a link to like a Microsoft site that gave the differences in detail, but Marty covered it pretty well.

Thanx guys!
