"VOL" files in my 6700

After doing a hard reset and only reinstalling a few of the cab files ,I installed voice command. I had about 21mb available in storage memory. Yesterday I noticed that all of a sudden there was only about 15 mb available. I looked through all the files on my phone, and noticed a new file named PIM.VOL. It is over 3 MB in size. I have no idea where it came from nor what it is used for, nor can I delete it. Does anyone have a clue as to what it might be? It is located in the root directory of the phone.
Thanks
Vegasman

I believe that is where your PIM data is stored now that it is no longer in database files.

For further clarification, the pim.vol is a database volume which holds the databases/tables for Contacts, Tasks, Categories, Appointments, Synchronization, etc.

We have a handy tool which lets you easily dump the contents of these databases to a text file, if interested, just message me here.

Please explain more about Dumping pim.vol to a terxt file. Can this be programed to stack onthe stiorage card instead of Storage Memory.

Also, if you know, when I first got my PPC-6700 in 9 of '05, I read several posts which detailed how to hard reset the phone and then while it was booting, do something that caused the Factory installed "Garbage" NOT TO INSTALL.

There were also posts explaining how to install a prorgam which allowed you access the registry and to then delete certain cab files which were also not needed and which ate up memory.

I have searched the forums now for 1/2 hour and can not find anything on it.

I just received a replacement PPC-6700 from Sprint and am about to set it up from out of the box. I would really like to know how to get rid of the OEM programs I don't need?

Lastly is there a way to save all of the settings from one PPC-6700 to my memory card so that I can dump them back into the new phoe without haveing to set them all manually?

There are ways to export this information to a text file for viewing the contents of it, however that's not a recommeded way to move data to another device.

I would have a look at SPB Backup to help you with this:

If U Want To Move Your Contacts Without Active Sync Save The Pim.vol Or Beam It Somewhere. When U Want To Change The Contacts On A 6700 Rename Pim.vol To Pim.vol.old Replace With Backed Up Pim.vol Soft Reset Device And Viola You Can Move Contacts At Will
