Problem Solved: activesync 4.1 error 85010014 with desktop

Found this here: http://hardware.mcse.ms/message259460.html

It worked for me the first time around. Good luck to all.

My problem was with the desktop. but appararently it would be about the same
for the server.
It seems that this guy http://www.sb.com.au/jasjar/activesync_4_0.html had
solved this problem. I tried it myself and it worked for me ! - thank you
sir !!!!

The bottom line is reinstalling Outlook 2003, but with this procedure you
don't even need the CD (which in my case was in the office) !!! - (I was
afraid at first.., removing outlook 2003 ?????, no WAY !!!!, but. it
worked eventually with no effort !)

1. run Control Panel -> Add or remove Programs -> Office 2003
2. chose to "modify" by adding or removing components.
3. uncheck Outlook and update it to remove Outlook from the Office 2003
suite (YES .. YES ..)
4. The ..
5. return to this option and re-check Outlook to add it back to the Office
2003 Suite (it did not ask for the Office 2003 Install CD-Rom in our case)
6. Reboot and connect Activesync again..
7. you are up and running !!!!

Good luck !!!!

JD

Seems to be a continuing problem.

This is just a bump so that we won't have three more threads on the front page detailing the same problem.

Has anyone else had positive results with this method/fix?

Just got my xv6700 from Verizon last week (from a 7135 Kyo), and this is the only trick that has worked. Needed the disk for my Dell laptop, but the uninstall/reinstall did the trick. Thanks.

Worked on an i730 after flashing SuperDave's WM5. Thanks so much. I've posted this solution in the i730 forum as well.

Well, I guess I could be totally screwed here.

I updated to WM5 "official", installed AS4.1, and it won't connect to the PC. Well, it says connecting, but I can see an IP has been assigned, but let's just say that I dont have the opportunity to sign on as a guest: the green wheel of death just keep turning around.
I have Outlook 2000 running on XP, have had no problem with it, nor with AS3.8 with WM2003SE.

Is Outlook 2000 incompatible with AS4.1 ?

Download and install the ActiveSync 4.2 Beta from Microsoft. It solved all my problems with Outlook.

Thanks, I will wait until they un-Beta it.

I solved after trying about 15 ideas...it was the Windows Firewall (with XP), I had disabled Norton long ago, thinking that the Windows firewall wasn't even active...

So, watch out for that, folks.

Now I can setup my "new" WM5 I730

Thumbs up AS 4.2 Fixed my issues as well.

I was getting "The Green Wheel of Death" with AS 4.1 via usb. I could only get it to work via bluetooth.

I installed 4.2 beta and the problem was fixed. I'll be installing the new Non-Beta version soon.

Just so ya'll know Active Sync 4.2 solves this problem and is no longer in beta like Jeff says. I had finally installed the new rom and had the problem. Spent hours trying to fix it and the new update did it.
