"Wengophone for PocketPC is almost ready for release... Stay tuned!" and that for WM2003
they have a long way to catch skype, i would like to know if the firewall traversal is truly transparent (no user config) - if not it's just about DOA - IMHO.
Open source is nice but i dont like the user/pass central login junk. Asterisk (PBX) is open source and i dont need to sign up with anyone.
w/SKYPE u cannot call Direct land lines right? U need to pay I guess.. with Wengophone its free itseems...
Is there any other App that can do free voip PPC -> Phone calls? I wish "Cisco IP communicator" can be built for PPC, that app which I currently use on my laptop rocks!!! I can make calls to any country using VOIP on my laptop )
i dont think wengo is free to call landline or cellphones
The thing about SIP is it does not work well through NAT, I use an IAX (another VOIP protocol) on my PC which is much better for firewall traversal. There is an IAX client for PPC but your PBX (asterisk does BTW) or VOIP provider has to support it. If you have a SIP proxy running on your firewall or in the DMZ you can get around the NAT problem, but how many people are really going to go through all that. The other option is to stick your PPC Wifi in the
DMZ, but then you are limited to wifi access that you can admin and usually no DHCP in the DMZ- so basically home or work.
Nice thing about EVDO is no firewall but the high latency makes VOIP problematic.
IPblue makes a ppc phone that works with cisco's sccp protocol. I've tried the desktop version with my asterisk server and it worked well. I haven't gotten around to trying the ppc version as I already have a cisco wifi phone

that_kid: thanks for reply.. what details I can fnd in CISCO IP Communicator about this VOIP ? I need to connect to my company VPN for the VOIP to work too.. Hopefully there is good VPN client for PPC outthere...
We have CCM and I have used the VTGO. It work great as long as your phone does not sleep. Once it sleeps incoming calls do not wake the phone and ring.
The 2.0 will work. I set our CCM to auto configure. Put the ip address of the CCM in the VTGO. After that it configured it with an extension. I then changed the extension to my desk phone.
I'm using SJ Phone with my credentials from ViaTalk on my XV6700 and it works pretty well. There is a beta that mostly supports WM5 with a couple of bugs, such as sound comes from the speaker vs the earpiece (but I use BlueTooth, which works fine), and several of the key fields (3 IIRC) that you need for your SIP server info don't have labels, so you need to look on-line to know what goes in each one. Once set up, it works great with a WiFi connection - very good voice quality. I've tried with EVDO connection, but it has very poor voice quality that way. The version I'm using is Build 1.62.320b, Feb 15 2006.
