Anyone notice how the stock 6700 calendar app can't be used one-handed very easily compared to the 650? On the 650, you can change views with the touch of a single button but it takes multiple presses to do the same thing on the 6700. Also, why can't you navigate between individual days when you're in the month view on the 6700? You've got to pull out the stylus to hit the day that you want. On the 650, you can easily navigate with the d-pad.
Has anyone been able to remove the stock calendar app and replace it with something else? I hate to add new software just to leave the old stuff taking up valuable memory space.
I think the builtin calendar is actually better than any 3rd party (PI or AF) out there in terms of 1 handed use. With the softkeys and joystick, I can navigate around the calendar with 1 hand. In the month view, I would scroll to the month I want and use my finger to tap on the day.

That's exactly the problem. You can't navigate without having to use your finger or the stylus. That's not what I would consider one-handed operation.
I've checked out the replacements and some look good, I just don't know how to remove the stock calendar app. Is there a way to do it or much I give up more memory to install a third party app along with the stock app?

May I ask how you are pressing the buttons then? The finger I'm using is the thumb. um maybe i'm wrong but isn't a finger (thumb) still part of the hand? I am still using just one hand to navigate through the calendar. I'm pretty sure you still need to use at least 1 finger with any device out there.
Having to press on the screen with a finger or the stylus is not what I consider one-handed. I would like to be able to navigate everywhere using just the joystick like you can on the Treo 650.
Maybe your definition of 1 handed is different from mine...to me, since I am navigating on the joystick using my thumb, i don't see how it being that much of a pain to move my thumb to the screen and tap. I'm still just using the same hand (thumb). But best of luck finding something that would satisfy your needs.
Again, you can navigate one-handed with the Treo 650 without having to press on the screen with your fingers. That's what I'd like to do on the 6700. When you're in the month view, there's no reason why clicking on the joystick doesn't highlight a day and then you can navigate through the days using the joystick. Having to use your finger to press on the tiny screen or having to pull out the stylus is hardly the easiest method.
I understand what you mean but I can also see why MS designed it that way...if you are in the month view, you are trying to scroll through the months, not days...that is why there is a day page and a week page. I haven't used Pocket Informant for a while but it might have what you are looking for.

You sound like you've never used a 650. When you're in month view, you can also scroll through the months. Hitting the center button (like clicking the joystick) highlights a day and then you can move around within that month. You can't do that on the 6700 and there's no good explaination as to why not.
You're right, I never used a 650...but by the way you are describing it, you're doing more clicking and navigating around than you would on a 6700 or a WM device, where you just scroll to the month and tap the day you want...but to each it's own.

Nope. You can do the same thing on the 650 except that changing views is much, much simpler. Just a single button press. Best of both worlds.
This is all in how the device you are using is designed. The Samsung i730 for example has a 4 way cursor with an ok button in the middle and you can navigate around without using the touchscreen. The 6700 is not designed in this manner, and was designed for use as more of a PDA than a one handed device, and they focused on the stylus as a choice of input. Same holds true for the 6600. The Treo was designed for more use as a one handed device, with occasional use of the stylus, which is also how the i730 was designed. All the devices are designed differently, by different people, different companies for different reasons. The benefit of the 6700 is the landscape keyboard, which while you are getting this you loose some other features.
Now we all know there are MANY differences between the 6700 and the Treo, and these have been discussed in length, and have led to no where but a closed thread, and constant flame. If you aren't happy with the 6700 and were only happy with the Treo, then may I make the suggest that you switch back to the Treo? It's better to be happy with the pda/phone than have to suffer with it. Now if you want to talk about the shortcomings and benefits of the 6700 and find out solutions around it, then please keep it to the 6700, and leave the Treo stuff to it's forum, and the 6700 stuff to this one.

Out of all the software suggested, I'm liking Pocket Breeze the most. I really like the SMS tab. It's not threaded but it's better than the stock app since I send a lot of text messages. The calendar isn't what I was looking for but it's not bad.
I sync my 6700 with Outlook on my desktop. The "Week" view (7-day week) on Outlook on the _desktop_ shows 6 equal boxes (w/ Sat&Sun sharing a 'box') for each day, and the actual appointment Times and Text in each box.
The "week" view on WM5 on the 6700 shows 5 or 7 columns with rows _shaded_ - only showing your approx. unavailable times.
The month view is equally useless on the 6700.
I don't really want additional/replacement software - but I would LOVE to see more than one day's appts in a week view.
And yes...I do have "Today screen" showing future appts.
The functionality for me is - when someone says "How's your schedule the first 2 weeks of March?" I need to look day-by-day to see where I am. I think the functionality of the (desktop) Outlook 7day week view is great.
2000 man, I hear 'ya! People who haven't had a Treo don't really know what 1-handed operation means! (I'm a former Treo600 user)
How did Pocket Informant work out for one-handedness on the 6700? I've used that before on a Pocket PC (2003 SE) and I generally like it, but I'm curious to know if they made any usability tweaks for the WM5 version.
