I just bought this for my wife, and I was hoping to find info on:
1)what are some SIMPLE things to do to improve performance?
and
2)what software is a must-have
She will primarily use the phone for email, internet, contacts and calender. She would really like to use her voice to dial the phone - is there free software to do this, or should be purchase Voice Command?
Also, I can't really figure out how to turn the phone completely off. It just seems to go into sleep mode. I hold down the power button, the LED on the right still blinks. Probably a pretty stupid question, but I'm stumped. Do I have to remove the battery to completely turn it off?
To turn the phone off, go into "flight mode" by tapping the phone icon at the top of the screen and selecting "turn on flight mode" , or by pressing and holding the red (right hand) phone key. Either way you will see a little "x" under the phone icon which indicates you are in flight mode.
You can't turn the PDA part completely off, except by removing the battery. That's how PDAs work.
1. It all depends on what you mean by simple. Most of the things to improve performance involve editing the registry, which is a pretty easy thing to do once you know how but can seem intimidating to someone who has never done it before. I suggest you take a look at the tips and tricks thread at the top of the forum to start out.
2. The only real must-have software is Voice Command, as you already mentioned (no free alternative exists). "Must-have" really depends on the user so everyone is going to tell you something different based on their individual needs. The 6700 comes with preinstalled software that takes care of each need you pointed out. However, a good thread to read would be the 3rd party programs that DO work thread at the top of the forum. This will give you an idea of the kinds of things people are installing on their devices.
Please review those two threads and if you have questions about something discussed in those threads, place them in the appropriate thread. In the future, please try to keep any new thread limited to 1 topic as asking multiple unrelated questions in a single thread can result in one big disorganized mess. Also, please be sure to search this forum for answers to any questions you may have before posting as newbie questions have often already been extensively discussed. I hope you find this information useful and welcome to pdaphonehome.com.
Marty - sorry about the multiple questions, I'll try to avoid that mistake again. In regards to the existing threads, I honestly did try to look at the other threads (tricks, etc..) but, honestly, it was a bit overwhelming in its current form.
