6700 clock keeps jumping ahead by 3 hours, please help
I've already gone to settings and change the time there. I also set it at pacific 8 time. I have already done what I believe to be the obvious . Usually when Ive gotten a phone from sprint is set the right time zone and Im good to go. I went to the Sprint store and they did what I did and of course about 4 hours later it went back to 3 hours ahead. Wierd. Any clue as to what's up with this issue?
Thanks
I had a similar issue and it was driving me nuts. Turns out I had the time zone set incorrectly on my PC, even though the clock was correct.
Here are the *steps to duplicate the problem* I was having, for those who are interested, assuming you are in EST (GMT -5:00) and are running XP-SP2 on your PC...
On your PC:
-double click the clock in your PC's system tray
-uncheck "automatically synchronize..blah blah" on the Internet Time tab
-on the Time Zone tab set time zone to CST (GMT -6:00), if you click "Apply" now this should throw your PC clock back an hour
-on the Date & Time tab, set your clock forward an hour...to the "correct" time
-in the ActiveSync application under Tools, Options, Settings, make sure the "Synchronize Pocket PC Date and Time..." option is checked
On your phone:
-if you have enabled the registry hack that automatically synchronizes your phone clock using the sprint network, disable it under Phone, Options, Services, Time synchronization..if you never enabled this registry hack don't worry about it
-remove phone from cradle/close ActiveSync if it is connected/open
-place phone in cradle and whatch your clock get set to the incorrect time even though your PC clock in the system tray appears to be correct, and your time zone on your phone appears correct!
(I have no idea how my PC got set up ike this to begin with...)
*If* this is the issue with your phone, here are the *steps to fix the problem*...
On your phone:
-disconnect from cradle, close ActiveSync completely...you can check this under Settings, System, Memory, Running Programs
On your PC:
-double click the clock in your system tray to bring up Date and Time Properties window
-on the Time Zone tab change the Time Zone to the correct value, click Apply and see if your clock gets thrown off
-on the Date & Time tab, readjust your clock back to the correct time
-optionally you may also wish to have your PC automatically synchronize itself with a time server...this is on the Internet Time tab
-click OK to close the Date and Time Properties window, your PC clock and time zone should be correct now
-in ActiveSync on your PC, go to Tools, Options, Settings, make sure the "Synchronize Pocket PC Date and Time..." option is checked
now put you phone in the cradle and let ActiveSync do it's thing...it should adjust your phone clock to match your PC and both should be set to the correct time.
I hope this fixes your problem or at least points you in the right direction...
Thanks. I will try this out tomorrow. Because I synch on my shop computer not my home. Man didn't expect to have this silly problem. Thanks guys for all the imput.
Originally posted by GREGHARKINS After reading that thread i did the hack, but is there a setting i need to change in the phone now? If so where is it?
Phone, Menu, Options, Services, Time Synchronization, Get Settings...then check the "Time synchronize with mobile network automatically" box.
("Time Synchronization" will only appear as an option in the select list after you do the registry hack...HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting : "HiddenTimesyncPage" = 0)
Hi, I've done the settings at my pc end by unchecking the "Synchronize Pocket PC Date and Time..." option. But whenever I sync my 6700 back with the PC, at the PC end, the "Synchronize Pocket PC Date and Time..." ends up being checked again. And, therefore, my 6700 gets the wrong pc time.
I have no interest in changing the PC time to be accurate, so that's why I'm trying to get the PC not to sync time with the 6700.
Any ideas how to get the "Synchronize Pocket PC Date and Time..." option to stay unchecked between syncs? (note that when I unchecked that option, I hit OK for that settings window and OK on the options menu.... the sync begins. When the sync is done, Options -- Settings still shows the time sync option unchecked... but when I sync the next time, the option is somehow checked again.)
Is there any related setting to make at the 6700 end?
Does the time synchonization hack actually work? I posted this hack at ppc6700user.com after I discovered it here in the tips and trick thread. A bunch of people claimed it didn't work over there and I have not changed time zones to personally confirm their findings. I also read that this hack would conflict with people who synchonize their outlook calendars with enchange servers when they are in different time zones.
For those of you having problems with this hack, have you unchecked the option for ActiveSync to automatically synchronize with the PC's time (as mentioned in a previous post)? You need to open ActiveSync on the PC, right click on the PC name to get the "settings" option, then uncheck the option to "Synchronize the PocketPC date and time upon connection".
Also be aware that the network time appears to be Universal Metric Time (UMT), formerly known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and will be offset by the time zone you setup in the "Clocks and Alarms" settings applet. When changing time zones, you need to either change the default "home" setting or setup the "visiting" time zone and activate that. My guess is that the network returns both the local time and UMT, but PPC's are programmed to use UMT, as is the case with Windows workstations, and more basic phones use the local time.
I don't understand the benefit of using this hack if you ultimately have to change the time zone in "clocks and alarms" every time you enter a new time zone. The only advantage appears to be for people who can't immediately synch to GMT (adjusted to their time zone) through active synch and a pc or wirelessly to an exchange server.
I agree that it doesn't make a lot of sense to use this hack (or uncheck the ActiveSync option) if you are going to be syncing your PPC with your PC on a daily basis, and your PC has access to an Internet NTP time source, or a server that is sync'd with one. It might make sense if you are not going to be able to sync for an extended time period, depending on how much the 6700's clock drifts.
