Walked into a Sprint Express in downtown Washington, DC, and bought one on Friday. New line of service required.

slighty OT but is it legal for sprint to sell the phone ONLY if you sign a new line of service.

There are price points for both, and thats clearly misleading to the consumer and probably falls under some legal bait and switch statute..

just my .02

I would recomend calling and saying you are a new customer and if they have the phone then go down and say you were checking for your girlfriend, but you would like one too. I have heard of a few people saying that they dont have phones, but if they call the same store and say its a new line of service, they have them in stock.

I needed to get a replacment for one of my PPC-6700. Went into the local store and they authorized getting a new one and said they would order it. I would get in 3 days. 2 weeks later I called and was told they have the PPC-6700. ASked if mine had come in and all of sudden they don't have any in stock. Called around if I was a new customer they had them, but then quickly changed to they could get one real quick, to no when they found out it was for a replacment.

Called *2 and Sprint rep said would send a replacement out to me. Got the phone the next day. Humm not one store in 4 I call said they had any and it would be a 3-4 weeks, yet Sprint sent me one in a day....

The way it went down for me was kinda funny. First off, I was already planning on getting a backup line if I bought a 6700, so I was prepared to tell them I was willing to activate a new line if I had to.

When the sales rep walked up to me and I asked if they had any, the first thing out of her mouth was "new activation?" I responded that I could either be a new activation or an upgrade/port from Nextel -- whatever it took to get the device.

I also said, "I also know you're not supposed to hold them for new activations, but I'm cool with that and I'm not gonna hassle you about it."

Sales rep immediately disappeared into the back, came back out and directed me to another rep who was holding my new 6700 at the register. The lady working the register remarked to the manager standing nearby that she didn't even know they had the 6700 in stock. The manager's response was, "Well, this gentleman understands how we do things, and he's cool, so we're selling our first one to him."

I was LMAO.

Try telesales/customer service. They have over 800 in stock. If its a replacement and you qualify for the rebate then you have to do a mail in rebate its not instant, but, other than that your good to go for a new activation or for a replacement.

If they have them in stock they must sell them no matter what. My local store lied to me and said that they didn't have any when clearly they did (I called back and pretended to be a new customer and I was told they were in stock).

I got mine at Best Buy in Fort Worth, TX two days ago. I had done a search online, and it said they were sold out. Went into a store, and had the rep look in their system. He found a nearby store had 3, and I saw on the screen several other stores with them in stock. Not large quantities though. Even the store I got mine from didnt even have it on display, it was under the counter. If you are in need, try my method, and you may have some luck.
