Anyone try VNC Remote desktop App?

Curious if anyone has tried a remote desktop app from their 6700, looking to run a custom client/server app (no pocketpc client yet) and just wondering if anyone has played with this yet (and of course how was it)

Two keywords in Google and you'll find both versions of VNC clients that work with PocketPC's (VNCviewer and .NET VNC Viewer) on the first page of hits, along with a VNC server (PocketVNC).

Why wait for them to update, just use VNC. It's free and you dont need to connect to a webservice to view your other PC.

What do you recommend for using on the PPC6700. I have tried a couple of ones for the PPC, but never got them to work together. Probably a config. problem. Thanks

I've used both the PocketPC VNCViewer and the .NET VNC Viewer successfully as clients to UltraVNC server on desktops and notebooks. My preference is VNCViewer since it's more like the original VNC client, but they both work as long as your network connection between the PPC and target system is solid.

I'm hoping that the UltraVNC crew comes out with a PPC client eventually so we can get some of its advanced features such as file transfer and chat.

i still recommend www.logmein.com over any vnc application i have tried thus far...just a better experience in my opinion...and the issue with the new rom has been fixed - and it's free (unless you want file transfer and guest invite etc.).

In general I agree, but I was answering a specific question about what PPC client to use if one chooses to use UltraVNC. I'm not upset about your comment, just pointing out that it's not directly relevant to the post I was answering, which I'm assuming is what you are responding to as well since that's the only current activity in this thread.

Having said that, the free version of Logmein is great if all you need is remote control, but you have to pay for the Pro version if you need/want some of the features that a native UltraVNC client would bring to PPC's.

For most people, free is better.

VNC also has the advantage of not requiring that you provide your email and other information (real or fake) to the Logmein vendor to gain access. To some people, privacy is a very important issue.

Personally, I use both, depending on what I'm using it for. My personal systems have Logmein installed, but the servers I access at work via the WM5 PPTP VPN client only run VNC and I can't install Logmein since they don't belong to me.

As with most things, there isn't a single best answer.

agreed ramjet - i wasn't responding to your post - if i had to pick a vnc client i would probably go with vncviewer and ultravnc as you stated.

i was actually adding my thoughts since one of my quotes is included here without my response (i think some posts were moved or something) and i think in general, if someone is looking for a "vnc solution," they should also consider the web-based alternatives.

this is not the thread to discuss logmein and the new ROM. the following thread is where that discussion is taking place:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68980

I will move your post to that thread.

The good thing about VNC is that it's free, and it works. The bad thing is, it's really slow compared to other solutions. GoToMyPC blows VNC away, but they don't give it away.

Have you tried UltraVNC with the the add-on video driver? I believe GoToMyPC uses Citrix technology, which will probably always be faster than the free VNC versions, but UltraVNC with the driver is a big improvement over the other versions.

No, I haven't tried it, but it sounds like it could be a big improvement over WinVNC. When I have some time I'll have to check it out, thanks for the tip.

You are right about Citrix. Over a good connect, it's about as fast as sitting directly in front of most computers.

I'm using UltraVNC server on my desktop and RealVNC's vncviewer.exe on my 6700. I'm having problems "double-clicking" icons when using the 6700. What's the secret for a proper "double-click"? I've tried double-tapping the stylus, tap and hold, tap and hold then another quick tap and I can't get it right. Thanks for the help.

I need some help. I have tried several VNC Server's and Clients. I have read the info and tried to get my PPC to connect to my desktop. I am totally frustrated trying to get it to work. When I had my Treo 600, I got it to run in 5 minutes. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to work. I have read the threads and still get no where. I must be missing something somewhere.

Thanks
