Dissecting the Extended_ROM
I broke down some of the Extended_ROM Cab files to see what they do.
---ButtonLock
Changes HKLM/Hardware/OEM/Keybd/Keylock from 0 to 1
No idea what this affects. I assume this has to do with the keyboard, and I cannot find any difference in behavior with the change.
---Enable Ring Tone
This creates registry connections for a "Ring Tone Plugin Player".
Do not know what this is for.
---Cert_SPCS and Cert_SPCS.sa
Removes the WM5 unsigned application warnings. Very impressed and very happy they did this. Also stunned that an operator would do this.
---Version
Creates registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\3rdversion\MSystem with a value of 1.03.300 WWE.
This is a new key with unknown consequences.
---Customize
This does a lot. Many registry keys for network, proxy, sounds for Flight Mode On or Off.
This would seem to be very important.
So at this point I only install ButtonLock, Cert_SPCS, Cert_SPCS.sa, Customize_SCS, IOTA.sa, and Version.sa.
These seem to be the most important and the most harmless.
I have attached a zip file with the relevant files from each of the cabs above.
