PPC-6700 vs. Blackberry 7100t - Am I Missing Something
I bought a PPC-6700 from the Chicago Sprint store last evening. I also have a BB 7100t, which I really liked, although the phone reception from the receiving end has been lousy. The phone reception on the 6700 is great, but I find it very cumbersome to use as a phone, as you have to use the stylus to dial numbers, and I miss being able to scroll down the page with the BB scroll wheel and perform all of the functions of the phone one-handed so the other hand is freed up.
Am I missing something about the attraction of the 6700? I am a corporate user, using my phone primarily to sync with Outlook information and receive emails on the fly. I do occasional web surfing. Although the 6700 is faster on the web, as another commenter noted, the screen is so small that the PDA/phone format is really not a productive way to read web pages when a PC or laptop is so far superior.
I love the phone, and I love the latest gadgets, but what to you people find so advantageous with the 6700 vs. the much simpler, more economically (1 hand) to use BB?
If all you want to do is sync with Outlook, check email, and phone calls, the Blackberry would likely be the better choice for you.
The 6700 does far more than the Blackberry but it doesn't sound like you will be taking advantage of these features. The 6700 is really like a miniature PC, and thus it has really robust media features like being able to playback audio and video files and of course has wifi and high-speed EV-DO access. You can literally customize this phone any way you like it, from changing the wallpaper to the Today Screen, to adding GPS mapping prpgrams to SSH clients to whatever, the possibilities are almost endless with this device because the OS it is running allows the user to customize it to a point, not so with the Blackberry.
The Blackberry does only a very few things (mainly sync Outlook/check email) but does them very well so if all you need your phone to do is those simple things, I would go back to the Blackberry. No offense but if you are having trouble figuring out why the 6700 is the more powerful device, the 6700 isn't for you. Just because a device is the latest and greatest doesn't mean you should upgrade to it.
Get the screen protector anyways. Also get an idea of why you bought the 6700. If you buy a device like this withot a good reason, - and 'just because it was the newest thing' won't work, - then you should return it.
