Microsoft Voice Command with Sprint Voice Command

I have been following this thread as I am very interested in getting a safe way to make calls while driving. The 6700 is difficult and dangerous to use while driving. While the Microsoft Voice Command sounds like it might be viable when it works better and is easier to install. I have been using Sprints Voice Command - it is very accurate and easy to use. However, I wonder if anyone has figured out a way to automate the activation button sequence of : * talk??? I have done it while driving but it taint easy.

Any thoughts?? I didn't see mention of this in the thread, unless I missed something

Thanks
Vegasman

I don't think it gets any easier than pushing the MSFT VC button you've asigned and saying: "Call, Steve Johnson, Home" and making sure she gets it right by saying YES if she repeats the correct contact or No and saying ti again if she gets confused - the poof, she dials.

How does Sprint's work?

vegasman,

with microsoft vc, you can assign any hardware button you want to activate or wake it up before you speak your command. you do not have to look at the screen or press more than one button

With sprint voice command you call a phone number (*TALK, *8255) and then the service recognizes the number you say and dials it for you.

Vegasman besides assigning *8255 to a speed dial I don't think there is any easier way to automate it. With it assigned to a speeddial you could start the phone program with one button and then press and hold the speed dial key you assign on the keyboard all without ever looking at the phone. Or you could press one buttong to start the phone program and then press and hold the speed dial button on screen but most likely you would need to look at the screen for that one.

I have both Sprints VC and MS VC. Clearly Sprints is more acurate. I'd say very close to 100%, the MS VC is maybe 80%. I also have the problem of not always hearing the response from MS VC. So I say CALL JOHN DOES AT HOME and still need to look at the screen to see the contact popup and say yes. I use the best of both worlds and SAY CALL SPEED DIAL and I've set up the "*" as an entry to SPEED DIAL. I assume it to be ok if I do not hear a response. I than get the SPRINT VC and say CALL JOHN DOE AT HOME and it works. I can use the Bluetooth to activate the MS VC. Once again I do not hear a response from the MS product (i can see the little mic, but I assume it is ready).

But MS VC has all of your contacts in memory and I assume you need to add those and modify them on SPrint's access number, no? If that is the case, what a pain. MS VC Is mor elike 90% accurate for me - but you can't be in a loud place or have others around you talking at the same time. Plus I'd like to hear you ask Sprint:

What's my next appointment?
Play Aerosmith Pump
What's my battery Level?
What's my signal strength?

Hands down, MS VC is better. Plus you get to show it off to your friends and you can't beat that!

I believe I mislead some of you on activating Sprint's voice command. It is * and the "talk" button on the dial pad screen, not * 8255(TALK). If you try to Dial "* TALK" , it does nothing.... Hope this clarifies my comments.

I agree with you on the extra functionallity of MS VC, that is why I have both. For the actual calling Sprints is really far superior. Like you said you need a near perfect envrionment to get 90% (80% for me), with Sprints unless you are outside in a windy situation it works well (With my Bluetooth anybody on the other end has a difficult time hearing me in the wind).

As far as setting it up I exported my outlook to Excel and did have to clean up the ',' entries. it took less than an hour to clean up and import over 300 contacts (many with two or more entries). If I add a contact in manually I do have to remember to also add it in Sprints. If I call 411 I can add it to Sprints automatically and than manually into my contacts.

I have an unlimited minute plan and average around 8000 minutes a month and with the MS version there is a large chance of accidentlly calling the wrong person. Even the MS voice response is a little difficult to decipher. The Spints version is perfect. I feel that with the MS one I'm constantly looking at my screen to verify visually that I'm calling the correct person. I get lots of windshield time and I would vote that Sprints is a safer option.

Like I said I do have both and also agree I can be doing a seminar and it is a show-off to press the bluetooth button and give a command. I think it is equally a show-off to have someone sendme an E-mail and magically see it get picked up by my cell phone.

voice dialing

I have "voice command" as part of my Sprint Pkg... I use the PPC6700. Since I am already paying for Sprints Voice, I thought that I would try it. However, since most programs require a button press, it is difficult and not too safe to do so while driving. Sprint requires 2 buttons to active it. The " * " follow by the talk button on the dial pad. I wonder if there is any way to program a button sequence that would, with one assigned buttom press, do the * , talk sequence. I use the Jabra BT-800 which has the answer and hangup buttons on the earpiece.

Thanks

How does Sprint's work?
It can be setup on Sprints web site (easiest) and there is a way to also do it while in voice command over your PPC.

I realize that you only need one button to activate MSFT VC. However since I already have the Voice Command and most of all the numbers I use already entered, I would use it. Don't like the 2 button activation though.

When I have mine connected to the car's sound system thru the fm transmitter, all I have to do is reach over to the phone and press the VC button I assigned and ask away. Right now to:

"Play Weezer Beverly Hills".

And next thing you know, I'm rocking to Weezer. Can Sprint do that?

1. Dial *, Talk...
2. After this, whenever you activate you bluetooth headset to redial the last number, it will dial Sprint Voice Command.
3. Use Sprint Voice Command as needed.

Question Sprint VoiceCommand Versus MS VC???

Okay this is what gets me... obviously if Sprint offers voice command as a monthly additional service then there is some kind of software/block/key or something they unlock in the phone to enable that service (so they can charge you)

My question is what is the difference between Microsnot's VC and Sprint's??? Has someone figured out what exactly sprint changes in your phone when you sign up for their voice command service? Because then we could just unlock that ourselves right? Rather than use MS VC? I've heard the Sprint one works amazingly with the BT headset. MS VC didn't work at all with my Plantronic 640 or my Flamingo...

I am dying without the ability to use VC to control my phone, dial, etc. ... I thought MS VC was the perfect answer, bought it and end up yelling at my phone to do the command...I look like the N3RD supreme of the g33k class.... LOL!

I cannot speak to the difference between MS voice command and Sprint voice command service, except that I believe that the Sprint service requires that you set up voice tags. However, I use the Plantronics Discovery 640 and MS voice command works flawlessly with it for me. How are you set up to use it? I am accessing MSVC through the AKU2 ROM update's SD dialer function, after performing the update I went into the registry and performed the following hack:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand\Path". Change the default value from "\Windows\SDDialer.exe" to "\Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCMD.exe".

This works really well with the 640--MS voice command almost always recognizes what I say--I have no complaints with it.

Hope this helps.

I think that you guys are a little confused. Sprint does offer a service called "Voice Command" that is an online vision service. This is accessed by pressing * then the Talk of phone button. This will dial the Sprint Voice Command service.

The software on your phone is a software based voice reconition application and has nothing to do wth the Sprint based Voice command service. This is basicaly the same as the MCVC software that you mentioned.

Yes, in order to use the Sprint Voice Command service there is a monthly charge for this service.

Your comment "obviously if Sprint offers voice command as a monthly additional service then there is some kind of software/block/key or something they unlock in the phone to enable that service (so they can charge you)" is somewhat incorrect. There is nothing on your phone that they unlock to enable the service. They add the service (like Picturemail or or other Vision services.) to you avvount like a subscription.

So to make things clear the Voice Command software that is on the phone as well as the MSVC is software based you load on your phone while the Sprint Voice Command is a service you describe to. All three are independant of each other.

Hope this helps.

I had a service like this with AT&T. I will have to try Sprint's to see if I like it...

What I did with my old phone was I setup a contact for the provider's voicedial service, and I trained my phone's built-in voicedial to call that number.

IOW, I would hit a button on my phone, say "voicedial" and it would call the AT&T voicedial service. From there I could tell it who I wanted to call.

Like I said, I don't know about Sprint, but AT&T's was nice because I didn't have to train it, and it was MUCH more accurate than anything else I have tried, including MSVC.

I had Sprint's VC when I had an employee SERO plan back in the old days when I worked for CompUSA. I never used it. You had to sync up your phone book with Sprint's servers (or create contacts on their site) in order to use it. I used it maybe once a year to show it to someone. IMHO, it's not worth the money per month thru Sprint.
