HOW TO: Make a Spare Battery Pack

OK so this may be old news to you all but after a couple of flights last week I was fed up with poor battery life with the 6700. I did find a link to making a portable battery pack and made one in about 1/2 hour. It uses a 9 volt battery. Everything you need is at a local Radio Shack.

Here is the link

This guy makes one for his shuffle. Don't follow the directions about "tying in the data" pins. I also didn't use the circuit board.

Headed out this weekend on long flights so will test it out.

Hope this helps any of you frustrated with battery dying out. Added bonus is that it will charge/power your iPod as well.

I made something very similiar but used a radioshack case that holds 4AA batteries and has a switch-it cost around $1.67 (part number 2700409- the 5volt regulator is part number 2761770)-it works well as I can usually get around 4 full charges from a set of AA's

Interesting idea, but it could be enhanced a bit. 9V's usually have pretty low capacities, and linear regulators are horriablly inefficcent. 2 or 3 AA's with a boost converter or 4 AA's with a LDO regulator would likely produce better results, although 3 or 4 AA's would be larger in size and a boost converter would add extra complexity.

Still a pretty good idea - similar to those items sold by others that take 4 AA's.

Yea, like the Socket Power Pack referenced in the post right after the one you linked, but a lot cheaper.

I fairness to Socket, there are a ton of adapters that come with their Power Pack for both the AC and DC sides. Unfortunately, they do not include a USB A to mini USB cable, but we should all have at least one of those already.
