DUN on Macintosh OSX and Bluetooth works - Step by Step
Hey Guys,
I have a Powerbook with MS Entourage. Can anyone share their experience using their PPC 6700 with Entourage as their email client, Bluetooth Sync and Modem.
Hey Bruce I think it may be possible to do as others are getting their i730 to work with their powerbook as a modem and if I'm not mistaken, the OS is the same.
I got this from another post:
I was able to hook-up my Samsung i730 with my 12" Powerbook OSX 10.4.1. Actually it was easier to set-up compared to my IBM x-31!
Here's how: I had to go to the phone app and dial in **7284 and select DUN via USB.
Plug in the Samsung USB data link cable into the i730 and powerbook USB port.
Go to Systems Preferences>Network
You will get a pop-up window, saying something like, OSX Samsung CDMA Bluetooth technologies...
Set a location: I called it VZW (but I guess you can just keep it on automatic)
Set the Show: port to SAMSUNG CDMA Technologies
Create a config: #777, yourcellphonenumber@vzw3g.com
password: vzw
for modem, I selected PC card (5220).
click on connect....and it worked!
cheers
Now I know we need a modem script for this and I'm not sure if the 6600 would work but maybe someone could have success with this.
Of course this is just to use the 6700 as a modem for a mac powerbook, but I still have not found anyone having success with sync to entourage or address book. If anyone does please let me know.
When I had the I730, it worked great with my ibook. It was running WM2003, not WM5. The issue is your Mac seeing the phone now that is operating WM5. Once that is solved, it should be trivial hooking up the phone and doing DUN or syncing. I tried the procedure above and it categorically did not work and I believe it is simply a matter of WM5 based PPCs not interacting with a Mac the way a WM2003 unit did.
Step by step instructions how I made DUN over Bluetooth to work with the PPC 6700 and my Powerbook G4.
Check to see if you have the latest OS 10.4.3
On the PPC6700:
Step 1:
Soft reset the PPC6700
Step 2:
Go to Wireless Manager and turn ALL OFF
Step 3:
Turn on Bluetooth Only in the wireless manager
Step 4:
Under settings (wireless Manager) select Bluetooth settings and check off “Turn on Bluetooth” and also check off “Make this device discoverable to other devices”
On the Powerbook:
Step 1:
System Preferences – Show All
Click on Bluetooth under Hardware
Step 2:
Click on “Set up new device”
Step 3:
Select “Turn on Bluetooth” (If Bluetooth is already on, I guess you would not see this screen)
Step 4:
Continue
Step 5:
Select the LAST OPTION – ANY DEVICE (NOT MOBILE PHONE !!!!)
Step 6:
It finds the device address (In my case 00-12-37-01-06-33)
Step 7:
Continue
Step 8:
Continue
Step 9:
On the PPC6700 a bluetooth screen comes up say yes and enter the passkey displayed on the screen of the Powerbook – click next on the PPC and click continue on the Powerbook
Step 10:
Make sure there is a checkmark in front off “Access the internet with your phone’s data connection.
Step 11:
Set up Bluetooth Mobile Phone Setup
I leave user name and password blank and select Sprint PCS Vision modem script.
no luck for me, I followed every step, but the "Access the internet with your phone’s data connection" option is not there for the last step, it just say "bluetooth handheld added" and the "Quite" button.

This is what it looks like on the mac:
-------
Device Name: "Your Name"
Disconnect internet service on the powerbook. I could be completely in left field but bluetooth does not come on in my case since there already is an internet connection.
thank you for the fast reply, yes i did disconnect the interent before i did the pairing(airport off). and yes my powerbook name is in the ppc6700 device tab.
here is what it looks like in my Powerbook.
Device Services: Service Discovery, Voice Gateway, Voice Gateway, Dial-up Networking
Paired: Yes
Configured: Yes
Favorite: Yes
Connected: No
seems like mine is missing "OBEX Object Push, Serial Port." from the Device services, and serial port connection.
