Was browsing around walmart today after getting my car charger, and found a generic car vent mount for the ipod for only ten bucks. Well, this is the north east, and I like to not freeze to death while driving so I can't mount it to a vent or the heat will melt my 6700.
Of course, I didn't let that stop me. I bought it anyway, and with some sheet styrene, an old bendy neck clip lamp, an inch of coat hanger, some padding left over from my halloween costume, and a dental floss case, I made this:
Haven't painted it yet, but there you go. Clips onto my e-brake, and puts the 6700 right where I can get at her (while parked of course). If anyone would like a more detailed tutorial, I might be able to whip one up. Let me know.

SLICK! Another fine example of good ol' American know-how!
I hate those vent mounts, myself. Not bad for the summer, as the AC keeps the phone cool (and they tend to get warm) but NOT during the winter when you want to blow in hot air. That'd cook the phone (again, as it tends to get hot on its own). Besides, the vanes in my vents are too thick for those vent mounts anyway.
I got lucky and found a cool cell phone mount that fits in your beverage cup holder, has a neck that stands straight up and is pivotable at the base and at the top. The 6700 fits in the grips nicely, which don't press any of the buttons and there is a foot rest for the bottom of the phone that leaves opening for the charging cable and earphone jack. I got this thing from Fry's for $26. yeah, it's spendy for any kind of mount, but after trying several options, this is so far the best. Since I have a dual cup holder in my car, I'm not worried about one being taken up by this mount. It's great because I can pivot and angle the 6700's display to a position comfortable for viewing and operation. What's more, it's down there, well below the eyeball level. The dash mounted and even vent mounted holders put the brilliant display of the 6700 right into your field of view and that's annoying at night.
I went to the FRY site and could not find what you are talking about.
Anybody buy the cig lighter with flexible neck holder? I know there is no power in that one, but this would put it in the best position in my car. I'm wondering how much it vibrates while dirving and if it ever falls out of the cig light socket.

I don't think it's on Fry's Electronics website, outpost.com but I could be mistaken. Maybe you looked up the wrong URL. Anyway, I found it on a clearance rack in the cell phone section of the Sacramento store.
Anyway, it's made by Arkon Resources, Inc. in Arcadia, CA. www.arkon.com It's called "Portable Phone Cup Holder Mount Kit" model #CM330
That has to be the weirdest car mount I've ever seen.. Does it hold it snug? I feel like if you went over a big bump, the 6700 would come shooting out.
Its an iPod cup holder mount--it IS actually quite snug and sits down fairly deep. the cup holder keeps it from tipping backwards. I'll be driving with it this way all week. Only drawback is power, but it does have a hole in the bottom for a power cord.
