IntelliSync with Sprint 6700 possible?? anyone tried it??
I have found that ActiveSync 4.0 is very limiting in its capabilities when it comes to synchronizing PIM (Microsoft Outlook) data with the PPC 6700:
- not able to select which type of tasks to synchronize (active, completed, past 4 weeks, etc.)
- truncates data in notes field of tasks, appointments, etc.
- not all fields synchronized (appointments, contacts, etc.)
Has anyone found another solution to synchronizing PIM data? How about IntelliSync Handheld Edition?
Any help/info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I used to use IntelliSync with my old palm....it worked, but barely (It would do the strangest things, make normal syncing behavior oddly).
I decided to jump out on a limb and give it a try again with outlook/ppc, it works GREAT, and its FAST. Wow, I may go back to using my Yahoo account more now. It'd be nice if Gmail had something as polished
Ok...hold on here...so you're saying that IntelliSync synchronizes between Outlook and Yahoo and then ActiveSync synchronizes between the PPC 6700 and Outlook? I think you misunderstood my original post. I am looking for a synchronization program that can bypass ActiveSync altogether because I think its terrible (see my first post for the reasons). IntelliSync is not strictly a Yahoo sychronization product. They make other synchronization products as well, and that is why I was asking if anyone had used the IntelliSync Handheld Edition (which is supposed allow synchronization between a desktop and handheld device)...
Nothing can bypass ActiveSync. Just like on the Palm nothing can bypass Hotsync. Intellisync (or any other "sync replacement") merely rides piggyback on ActiveSync.
Why can nothing bypass ActiveSync? It is just a program that interfaces with what seems to be an installed ActiveSync program on the PPC 6700 to provide synchronization. It would seem that it would be possible to create another application that can be installed on both desktop and handheld that could then communicate with each other (via USB, Bluetooth, Infrared, Wi-Fi, EVDO, etc.) and they could provide synchronization for existing applications on the desktop and handheld?
Regardless, a synchronization package that piggyback's off of ActiveSync that addresses some of my issues above would be nice too...
ActiveSync also seems to have some serious problems such as when I synchronize my contacts it sometimes changes the email display as field or even changes the method in which emails are sent to that particular contact (from letting Outlook decide the best way to using Outlook Rich Text Format). This can be really really annoying!!
It may be technically possible to develop a syncing solution that completely supplants ActiveSync, but in the five years that Pocket PC has been around I have never seen one.
Intellisync has a free trial, so you can check it out and see if it solves your problems.
I will post later my experiences with it also as I have just installed Yahoo Intellisync. I guess what I understand now is that Yahoo syncs up with Outlook through Intellisync whenever you run the program, and ActiveSync syncs up Outlook with 6700 whenever you have it plugged in. Not sure the little quirks involved yet, and I am as green as they come on pda's but thrilled that it went fairly easy.
Biggest problem that I have noticed so far is that it has slowed this sucker WAY down...guess I will have to read through here to figure out how to speed it back up.
I have been using intellisync for about a year now on my Treo 650. I thought it worked excellent. No polling and my email would get pushed to the phone almost right away (about 20sec or less)
Battery drain is huge on the treo running intellisync. If you turn off intellisync the treo can go about two days without charging. With intelli running it won't go more then ONE day before it's drained. Understandable since all my email is comming to the device.
About a week ago I installed it on my new 6700. Off the bat it has more functions then it did on the treo. Much more powerful on this device. It's working well except that when the phone goes into standby or whatever it's called when you turn it off, the program crashes and closes. Another problem i've just notice is that it appears that its receiving mail correctly but also it's polling the server ever so offten when nothing has changed. It's wasting battery by doing this. Not sure why it's doing it but i'm trying to figure it out.
Oh and tech support for this product is HORRIBLE. I haven't called in a long time but in the past it's been bad. NO HELP from them.
Sorry for asking a silly question but did you update to activesync 4.1? I dunno if there was any changes but at least its the most current version and seemed to clear up some PIM issues i had.
Has anyone found another solution to synchronizing PIM data? How about IntelliSync Handheld Edition?
I received an email from Intellisync indicating that they expected to have an updated version of the handheld edition that is compatible with windows mobile 5.0 mid-January. Since I have no current way to syncronize with groupwise, I am eagerly awaiting its release.
I completely agree with you on the limitations of activesync 4.1 when it comes to task synchronization. not being able to exclude completed tasks makes it practically unusable from a performance standpoint; when you go into tasks after sync it tries to load all tasks at once which is rediculous when you have 1000s of completed tasks...
the old active sync had such an option to exclude completed tasks. I don't know why they removed it.
I will be curious to hear how you like intellisync. i f I find an alternative, I will let you know
