A week ago I was reading a recent edition of Wired magazine and there was a small article on the AnyCom BSH-100
Product Specs
I was amazed at the possibilities of using my PPC6700 to play MP3s on wireless stereo headphones. I quickly did my research and found one, ordered it and it arrived this evening. Eagerly I setup my partnership, detected...Yeah!
As a phone (voice) head-set the product is amazing, it comes with a little mic. and sounds great (according to my wife). The headphones are soft and cushy, light and fold up nicely for travel.
But all dreams never come without disappointment; especially for early adopters. Unfortunately I can't get the device to play any other audio source including and most importantly audio from Windows Media Player.
On the AnyCom website there are some forums (most in German but some in English) and I now find out that other devices are having the same problem, including the Treo 650.
Apparently it has to do with some Bluetooth profiles. I understand that the device supports two profiles:
+ Handsfree Profile
+ Headset Profile
Handsfree Profile is the profile used by a standard Bluetooth headset (I can tell cause I also have another headset). Its profile enables the device to make and end calls from the buttons on the device and play phone audio.
Headset Profile is the one which streams audio in stereo. It's supposed to establish/release audio connections, support volume control, etc.
More details on Profiles
I can see both profiles under my Bluetooth partnership settings for the device (unlike my other headset which only has one). And even when only Headset is enabled the device buttons still continue controlling the phone e.g. starting a call rather than starting WMP.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be done to enable/repair Headset profile support? Reading some of the WM5.0 specs I read that it supposed to support it. Hopefully there is a way to hack a fix.
Thanks for reading,
