Comcast email on 6700 Thread

I need help....

For some reason, messenger is downloading incoming e-mail from Comcast.net, but it is giving me errors when trying to send e-mail

incoming is set to: mail.comcast.net
outgoing is set to: smtp.comcast.net

I used these settings: http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/inde...look_200217837

Anyone please?

My guess is that Comcast restricts sending only when the mail originates from an IP address within its scope...

Here is a test you can do...

Turn off the cellular radio
Turn on the 802.11b radio in your home wireless network, and connect to your home network.

Check connectivity by surfing a website or two on your phone.

Replicate mail...

If it works, its because you can only send email from a comcast IP address...

use the sprintpcs smtp

If comcast won't work, I have the same problem with comcast on my Treo 650., you can use the sprintpcs smtp, using your vision information for account name and password. The server is smtp.sprintpcs.com (I think). I have gmail thru google and use the smtp.gmail.com for my phone.

Hope this helps

If comcast restricts sending, why in the world they would provide this?

I strggled with this for the first week, even getting a replacement phone. Finally I actually received a call from the I/S department and we went with smtp.sprintpcs.com for the outgoing. In the options use your ID without the "@sprint.com", just the ID and passoword. First time around use whatever defaults the the phone uses, it will work. Afterwards add any other options, like try every 5 minutes. You also need to have the switch for power vision set on in your account. I've been very successful since I went through this procedure. Now when it fails I assume it is because visison is down or I'm not getting a string signal.

WHen you send an -email from your PPC will it show @comcast.net in the recipients' inbox? or it will show e-mail coming from @sprint.com?

Why do you need power vision?

That page leaves out settings for sending mail if you're outside comcast's network.

If you look at settings for Outlook Express, Outlook or other programs, you'll notice that they have settings for if you're traveling (outside comcast's network)

So you'll need to do SMTP authentication for sending, and specify youremail@comcast.net as the username, and your password.

Perhaps you can send a note to comcast support to update that Pocket Outlook page.

I'm receiving the same error on my own domain. I was able to send emails using my old SE P800 using the same exact SMPT authentification settings, but I have yet to figure out to how to send emails using the PPC6700

I had the same problem. It requires the same settings as my dekstop's Outlook settings.

Everything the same, INCLUDING:

"OUTGOING MAIL REQUIRES AUTHENTICATION" must be checked and "USE THE SAME SETTINGS AS INCOMING MAIL"

AS I stated right before your post, it now works, but I have the same configuration:

incoming is set to: mail.comcast.net
outgoing is set to: smtp.comcast.net

the difference is that now I left the DOMAIN: blank

Thumbs up Thank you, thank you, thank you

I have been messing with this for probably 4 hours today before stumbling across this thread via a search. My setup is that I used a pop3 account to pull my company email, but have to send email via my comcast personal account. This is only temporary until the sprint bus connect service is available for the 6700.

Anyway, what finally worked for me was:

mail.companyserver.com
smtp.comcast.net
company server domain

then select separate outgoing settings
using the comcast user name and password

What finally got it working was to drop the comcast outgoing domain as suggested above.

Thanks a bundle.

Timed Out... (comcast)

I just got my PPC 6700 a few days ago and this is really the first problem I have ran into. I just set up Outlook and whenever I send/recieve it takes 2-4 mins to get these messages 1 followed by 2.

1. Timed out waiting for a response from the server. Please try sending and recieving mail again.

2. Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again.

I looked around the board but the previous threads do not help, anyone experience this problem w/ or w/o comcast being thier e-mail server ?

Probably a relaying problem... Use sprint's smtp server instead of comcast's (don't recall what it is right offhand, but a search should turn it up quick).

HTH,
