i dont really understand why changing something like this would make the battery life any worse..., but im already not happy with battery life so if this makes it any worse i'll have to live with the ringers being slow...

CDMA phones do not constantly have a live communication with a tower when they are not in a call. They poll the tower on an interval to see if there is an incoming call. The poll interval is determined by the Slot Cycle Index (SCI). This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2^value (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2 (5.12secs). If your phone is polling the tower more frequently, it's obviously going to use a bit more juice doing so. How much more juice? It varies from situation to situation, depending on how well your signal strength is and if you're in or out of good signal often. Only you can decide where your happy medium is.

ok well most people are saying to go with 1... some say to go with 0, i just checked and my phone is already set on 1.. so im guessing 0 would be the best bet for me, i just hope it doesnt kill battery life.. oh yeah and i am using verizon's version of this phone. My ring starts usually around 2 rings, i'd like it to be 1 so i'll try to get my MSL later.. those of you using 0, have u noticed any difference in battery life?

Does VZW even set the MSL? I thought it was only Sprint, and VZW leaves it at 000000. I could be wrong, though.

I called Sprint to make some changes because they can't get my account right (another story) but this rep was nice and helpful. He gave me free nights and weekends starting at 6pm for all 3 of our phones because he knew that the 6700's can't get the Sprint TV and Sirius. I asked if they could offer something like that to make up for it.
Then I asked for our MSL codes because of the slow ringer. He didn't know what it was but took a minute to look it up. He found it and gave me both of our MSL's for our 6700's and also gave me the MSID codes. But I don't know what I need those for yet.

I have Sirius installed on my vx6700 and it works great! The program even keeps my user name and password so I don't have to reenter it.

No. These settings are stored in the Qualcomm chipset, which a hard reset does not touch.

I just got off the phone with advanced support and here's what they had me do to fix it:

1. dial ##160908#
2. click edit
3. enter my 10-digit phone number in both fields (only one had my phone number the other was 10 zeros.)
4. Press ok, save, and allow reset.

So far the phone wakes on the second ring from standby, and voicemail notification is within 10 seconds of hang-up. Much better."

I have try that and still, sometime it delay to 4-5rings. The next time i check by dial ##MSL#, the MSID still there. Dialing ##778# allow to edit the MSID, can I set that to 0? because dial ##MSL# and set teh MSID to 0, after the reset its there again. So in the edit screen when dial ##778#, can i set the MSID to 0 or it have to be the default number???

thanks

When I do this and I have to reset my phone when it comes back up I have to re-enter my BT headset, email accounts, and 1X info and the MSID is back at all zeros!

Edit: This is because this was not the master lock code. I got the master lock code and it's working (see post below).

To do this, you will need your MSL, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you. Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST). You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone. From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2^value (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2).

Also on this page is your preferred operation mode. The Default is Automatic, which is the best available mode (EV that will roll back to 1X when EV is unavailable). There are times when you might be in a fringe area and your mode may cycle frequently and this can seriously drain your battery. Setting this to HDR will force EV-DO only if you demand an EV-DO connection. Changing this setting to CDMA Only will force the phone to ignore an EV-DO tower and maintain only a 1xRTT connection.

Hope this helps you all out!

I finally got my code and I am trying this starting at 1. I'll see how it works.

Edit: Ok wow! This works for sure. When I call now it rings on my phone before the 2nd ring on the calling phone. This is with the setting at 1. Now I will see how my battery handles the increase polling.

don't waste your time testing the battery, i already did it.

http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...9&postcount=35

long story short - set it to 0 - the performance increase for ringer response is far better than the very minimal increased power consumption.

This was so easy for me (I am a Verizon customer).

Open phone app
Dial ##778
Choose Edit
Enter default access code: 000000 (for verizon only)
Select Modem Settings
Change SCI code to "0"

This works great. What a HUGE difference.

Lucky Verizon Users! I still do not understand why Sprint does not have a master MSL code that works on all 6700 units. What's the big deal? It's not like we are going to do anything illegal with the number. D'oh!

Ok, not fully related to the topic of the thread, but I just had to clear something up.

The "illegal" thing that Sprint is talking about we're going to do with the MSL code is using the phone on another CDMA carrier; i.e. using a sprint phone on Verizon's service.

I know this from my Toshiba 2032 days (horrible phone). I used a sprint Toshiba 2032 on U.S. Cellular's service. U.S. Cellular has really cheap plans. If your CDMA phone can function onthe same radio frequency as the service you're trying to use, and you have the MSL code to reprogram the phone, you can pretty much take your phone to any CDMA company and use it with their service (that is, if they enter your ESN into their system, which is a whole 'nother problem)

The reason phone companys don't like doing this is because they subsidize part of the cost of the phones to get them to you at such a cheap price. Even though we paid around $500 for the phones, sprint paid around $650. they give you the break in price in exchange for you signing a contract. They don't like selling you the phone cheap, just to have you use it with another carrier. they want to get back their investment by having you use their service.

So, remember, if you ever want to use your phone with another CDMA carrier, and you can convince that other carrier to enter in your ESN into their system, you can PROBABLY use the your phone on their system (gsm style).

On another note, my 2032 had the option of using 2 carriers at once. I don't have my MSL for this 6700, and haven't played around with the phone service menus yet. for those that have done this faster polling hack, did you see the option in there for a 2nd carrier? that would be interesting...

Slot Cycle respone time fix for sprint phones?

I recently read the instructions on how to do the slot cycle fix.
My probem is that once I've got into the provisioning part, there is no pull-down menu with 'modem' listed....
has anyone done this fix on the sprint phones?

thanks...
