some (long?) text messages not appearing correctly?

my girl sends me texts all day long...and sometimes, seemingly when she sends long, multi-text message messages, instead of seeing what she wrote, i will get two (or three) text messages that have only a square in them...it is similar to when you paste something into microsoft word and it just gives you the square because it can't display it correctly...

anyone have this type of problem or know what it could be/how to fix it?

thanks,

-jeff

When you say multi-text messages, do you mean she manually segments them (i.e. she sends more than one herself), or the network segments them?

phones segment the messages themselves - over 160 characters is automatically sent in another message, etc.

wow...that is a NICE feature...most SMS messaging programs only let you go to 160 characters and then stop you...the Treo 650 did this...its nice that this one lets you go further and just segments the message automatically into more than one SMS message...finally a reasonable way to use SMS to send relatively long messages!

With respect to your problem jeffreii, the only thing I can think of is the network is screwing up...it might be one of those things that you have no real control over and I have a feeling that even if you contacted Sprint, they probably couldn't offer any help. However, if you were able to reproduce the problem yourself, you could always try calling Tier II Support (866-818-1944) and demanding that they help you...

well i'll have to test it out with her phone to do that...i have no clue what type of messages she sends me that cause this, but i just know that they are long...

as for splitting it up, my nokia 3650 from 3 years ago did that as well - guess i am spoiled.

Is your gf on Sprint? I ask because I have noticed that when I receive long text messages from friends that use other carriers, I encounter the same problem that you describe.

That's probably the problem then. Most of the time that that problems happens to me, I'm receiving texts from Cingular users.
