Can Camera Function be deleted?

Wondering if the camera functionality can be "turned off"...this would probably make it OK to bring it in to work, where no camera phones are allowed.

Thanks in advance!

Even if the camera functionality could be turned off this would not meet the requirements of many companies where a physical camera is not allowed on site, period.

I've often wondered why manufacturers don't design phones with removable camera modules. This would allow them to meet the needs of the camera and non-camera markets with one model, and would permit a camera phone to be taken into a strict non-camera environment after removing the camera module.

I'm sure with some registery tweaks it could be disabled.
I'll back mine up and see what I can find out.

I'm fortunate in that my company doesn't ban cameras, but my wife works for a defense contractor. When it comes time to replace her PPC-6601 I figure to ask whether painting the lens of a phone's camera with black fingernail polish, or if that's not good enough, taking sandpaper to the lens to permanently opaque it, would allow her to have a phone with a built-in camera at her work.

I'm guessing that it would depend on the particular security person at whatever facility I was at. Might be ok to "defeat" it to the satisfaction of the local guy where I work, but that may not be good enough for the guys at a military base.

Maybe the blackout and/or sandpapering the lens would be good enough. Maybe a skin or some type of permanent cover could work. Could disassemble and remove the lens, but that would probably goof up the warranty, and it would not be sealed as well then.

They don't allow any camer phones at my gym, but you don't see me leaving it in the car. Just pretend like it doesn't have one and keep the camera turned off and you should be fine. Worse case they make you show them what you got or confiscate it till they see you don't have picures of that Nuclear Power Plant module.
