My storage card erased itself today - I have no idea how! I previously had a few movies/mp3's plus installed prorams on the card - and now, just the outlook inbox.*** folder..
I was also having issues with my card (SanDisk Ultra II Mini) and it's been suggested to format the card on a PC and re-insert it into the PPC. Wala! No more access or missing files issue. This was two weeks ago and I use my PPC like no Tomorrow!
What brand card is it? I've lost files on my Sandisk 1GB card twice with my 6600. I finally gave up and got a new card. A 2GB from Patriot. Been a month with no problems so far.
No sorry, I keep forgetting you guys are mini-sd cards. No 2GB mini-sd available yet. My concern is several other people with sandisk products have complained about loosing data. Now it may be that sandisk is the most popular card out there but it is an inordinate amount reporting problems here. Mainly its been SD cards but I am unsuprised that the mini-sd is suffering the same problems.
I found my Sandisk card was wiped clean this afternoon. I guess I'll get to find out how well my last Sunnysoft backup works. Glad I copied it to my laptop as the backup file went poof along with everything else on the card.
This is pretty disturbing as it could really leave someone hanging. Many other people seeing this happen?
FIRST use the ActiveSync explorer, Total Commander or some other file explorer on the device or via the PC while synched to look in the My Device directory for TWO "Storage Card" directories (folders). I once had the same problem, so I formatted the card and restored it. Then it happened again. But that time when I was checking to see what got wiped out I noticed that there was a "Storage Card" directory (folder) and a "Storage Card 1" directory. One contained ONLY an email attachments folder. The other had all of my stuff. Needless to say, I deleted the one with only the attachments folder in it and all was back to normal. Why this happened, I'm not sure. However that was a while ago and it hasn't recurred since.
The "format in a PC" idea is good but in the end, cards' file systems crapping out is just a fact of life with memory cards. I've never had a memory card for any length of time that didn't give file system problems at one point or another. That's why its important to back up your storage card as well as your Pocket PC. Usually, after I do a full backup of my PPC to a storage card with Sprite Backup, I'll copy the entire contents of the memory card to my PC via a card reader.
this has happened to me before as well... but this time it is happening and it is a bit different. I erased the Storage Card 2 and now just have the one..... that is fine and everything is on there. However all the apps that I had installed onto the card do not show up as programs on my device.... I have to go to the exe. file directly through the File Explorer to launch them, which does launch them, but even so they don't show as open or recently used in the Start Menu.
Any idea on how to fix this? I have tried reinstalling the apps over the current install as well, with no luck.
Thanks
Earlier in the day, the device was getting obnoxiously slow, much slower than I had ever experienced it before.
About 10 mintues ago, I open Windows Media to play a file, and it says I have a new storage card installed. I go ahead and let it search everything, and it cannot find my MP3. So I open File Explorer and find that my entire storage card is erased except for a directory where mail attachments are apparently stored.
I have nothing really wild installed, nor have I done any hacking.
Has anyone else experienced this? I am totally baffled.
I haven't experienced this, but flash memory inherently has a limited life span. Especially modules that are cheaply made. Photographers know that CF and SD cards can go bad fairly easily. I would suspect that the card you have is malfunctioning.

Thanks. Are the Ritek cards know for quality? I thought Ritek was a decent brand of CD media, so I assumed their SD cards would be of similar quality.
Actually, I've never heard of Ritek, though I can't say I'm an expert on flash media. I have a SanDisk, personally, as do many others. Well known brands are generally a little bit more expensive. Some of the not so well known brands may use cheaper materials to make their product. Compare it to buying kroger brand batteries to an Energizer. Energizer is almost certainly going to last longer.
My sandisk 1gb erased itself last week... all of a sudden I pulled my phone out to look at some photos I had taken and the sd card was empty.... hasn't happened to me in months.... so I guess I was due.... so annoying. I have to install those apps all over and I lost those photos.
I've experienced card erasure only when I'm storing e-mail attachments to the card. I think it's a bug related to that... I went for several months without problems storing attachments to main memory. As soon as I made the switch, problems started. I've had the erasure (except for attachments directory) twice now. I switched back to main memory--expect problem to vanish.
