I'm also using WPA-PSK on a Linksys wrt-54g network without issues. My network is locked by MAC address also, and once I loaded the 6700's mac address into the table, it connected and works flawlessly.

I'm new so pls. be patient.
I have recently purchased a 6700 from telus and have not had it registered on the evdo network. I intended to test the unit for a while before I locked in! (30 days!)
So, I'm finding it to be an awesome little piece of tech. I do have many newby type questions but the relevant one is my D-link DI-624 router. I have been using this router for some time and have had few problems with the wireless features. I use the 802.11 G on a daily basis. The MAC filtering is on and both devices are in the allow list
Since acquiring the 6700 I am only able to connect to my wireless router if the encryption on the network is disabled. This goes for the 6700 and my toshiba laptop.
I have attempted to use WPA-PSK, WEP-PSK auto, and WEP options for encryption. I have tried all variations of SuperG and all that jazz, All channels, and the extended range option. With any of these, I have never been able to connect both devices and have rarely been able to connect even one at a time.
With the encryption off, I am able to connect freely.
Any Ideas????
I read that the 6700 is an 802.11b. Is this true? If so, perhaps my trouble is the speed switching with the G.
Perhaps there is some odd problem because it's not on the evdo network?
I had a similar problem with an older Dlink router where there was a glitch with the MAC filtering and encryption being used at the same time. Though, I have never been able to re-create this problem on the 624 router before I bought the 6700.
So, sorry for the long winded questions. I didn't want to be vague.
So, any help you have would be great!
The 6700 only supports 802.11b. In order for it to work with a 802.11g router, you have to run the router in 'mixed mode wireless'. This will most likely slow down your whole network a bit, but it is usually considered acceptable.
Routers like the 'superG' bind two 802.11 channels together to increase range and throughput, which is good - BUT they don't comply with the standard 802.11 spec - which is bad when you want to connect your 6700 to it.
and listen to the podcasts on WIFI protection (they're the first couple).
Disable MAC filtering, it's really worthless as far as protection goes and it's a PITA too.
Use WPA-PSK with a good password. I'm not sure what 'WPA-PSK auto' is...so stick with the normal one.
Make sure your router is in 'mixed mode b/g' and disable 'superG', extended range, and probably 'all channels' too. (which probably only makes a difference if you're in Europe, which because you're using a CDMA phone, I'm guessing you're not.)
Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.
I am going to listen to thhis podcast tonight.
just a couple questions. Why do you think the mac filtering is useless?
On my router, I only have an 'AUTO, 54, 48 ....etc on my speeds. No b/g/auto buttons. I'm using the 2.70 firmware.
I am using a cdma phone. Umm, I think. Telus PCS. I'm rusty the networking. It's been a while.
The podcast spells it out nicely, but basically, MAC addresses are extremely easy to spoof. Some card adaptors simply need a registry change. All a hacker has to do to bypass the filtering is to look at the computers using the network, then use one of those MAC addresses as it's own.
RE: a/b/g stuff. I'm not totally familiar with your router. I would go through the manual, or online and see how if/how it limits it's protocol usage. I believe the setting you're looking at is for 'speed sensing' where it throttles based on signal strength - which is different than b/g modes.
CDMA is the cell phone networking technology that Telus PCS, Sprint, and Verizon (and others) use, but it's only in the US and Korea. Everywhere else uses some variant of GSM (GPRS, EDGE, UTMS all are variants). Right now, the 6700 only comes in a CDMA version, so that's how I can tell where you are from.
I have tried every configuration I can think of and still can not get the encryption to work.
I find this odd because it worked so well before the 6700!
With the encryption off I can connect all I want. With it on, I can connect speratically at best, constantly resetting, regardless of the unit I'm using.
I'm hoping to try a dlink 524 router (my old one) and I'll use that as my radio only and run the dhcp through the old router with the radio shut off. Once I figure out where saw it last!
I'm sure this must be a somewhat common problem. It doesn't make sense that mine is the only DI-624 that's having these issues.
Maybe, just maybe, it's the firmware that I'm using from dlink.ca . The Canadian site. Apparently if you load the firmwawre from the .com site onto a Canadian router it voids the warranty.
Ya know, when I first started connecting to my wireless network with the 6700 I was having the same type of problems you are explaining. Same type of network too. I started digging around, and it actually looked like MAC filtering was the issue. For some reason my router was seeing the MAC of phone differently every time. All I did was turn off MAC filtering, and I can say I haven't had a problem since. Try turning off MAC filtering and see what that does for ya.
I have a linksys here at home and I can connect fine with WPA. But I recently bought my dad a dlink (don't remember the model) and set it up with WPA. I had all kinds of trouble getting the 6700 to connect, and the same problems with a laptop. Sometimes it would eventually connect, but then it wouldn't keep the connection. I switched the router to WEP 64-bit and the 6700 locked right on and worked fine. I haven't tried again yet with the laptop. I also haven't tried WEP 128-bit to see how that works.
But I'm sure others will tell you that their 6700 works perfect with WPA and a dlink router. Who knows!

Hey J. How going? Any luck with your 6700 yet?
Guys. I have my DLink DI624 running in G-mode only. I am running mode: SuperG withOUT Turbo, WPA-PSK, No MAC Addressing, 802.11g Only OFF. The key ppl are asking is the last point. PPC will NOT connect (at least to my DI624) with G-Mode ONLY on.

You're wrong about your router. You do have an option for b/g or just g.
winger, your post doesn't make any sense. You claimed that you have your router running g-only and then claim that g-only is off.
Of course the 6700 won't connect if your router is set to g-only. The 6700 can't connect to g networks, only b.
So, just to mention, I have not tried the 64 bit wep! I'm going to try that tonight.
Otherwise, I have tried to use all encryption configurations (except the 64bit) with and without the mac filtering on, without success.
The firmware that I used last didn't have the old radio buttons for b/g etc. It has a drop-down menu listing Auto, 54...48.... 22....11....etc. I have tried the auto setting and the 11 setting without luck.
The laptop always says connected at 54Mb. when on the auto setting and the pda connects fine as long as the encryption is off.
I am getting new dropped packets on the router log "spoof IP" and a lot of em! These are new and I have not found out too much info on them yet.
I'm also getting a lot of dhcp activity. Handing out IP's like crazy. So I'm going to try to static assign the ip's to see if that helps.
I'm running the 2.53 firmware now and have tried the 2.5 and the 2.7.
Still looking for the old di524 router to use as the radio. Maybe it'll work!
I have a call in to Dlink to see what they have to say for themselves.
thanks again all! I'll let you know if I get anything figured out.

Hey! Wow, it's nice to get recogized between forums. No "luck" finding the 6700. But I do have a REALLY nice person from SprintUsers that's going to help me out with a replacement. I'm hoping I don't have to do any sexual favors for it though .
So, I'm giving up for the day.
I'm waiting to hear from dlink or maybe I can find my old router and try it.
As I mentioned, I have tried all of the firmware versions with no luck. From 2.50, 2.53, 2.70.
There are three models of the DI624 with three different chipsets.
I think maybe those who have the revision a or b router can make this work..... I am confident that I have tried everything even though it's still not working.
I will bark at dlink and they'll say it's been noted and it'll be addressed in the next firmware update. Just like the rest of their glitches.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm willing and able!
I'll check back tomorrow but for now, I'm going to stream a dvd to my 6700 using this orb thingy that I just downloaded! Holy COOL!
So, as I said before, I have tried all the options I can see listed on all the firmware versions that have been available to me.
Anyway, 2000 Man, What firmware are you using??????
2.50?......2.53?.........2.70?
This is starting to get a bit repetitive.
Maybe you can take a screenshot of what you're doing right.
Are you sure you're using the revision C router? What chip-set does your unit use? How many antennas does your router have?
Anyway, try listing what firmware version is working for you. This will be easier than me guessing.
It's not rocket science and I know what router I have. I have a DI-624, rev. C. Every single firmware that I have ever loaded (and that's been all of them) has had an option for b/g or just g. Again, load the newest firmware like 2.71b7 and make sure that you've set it to do b/g. It's on the main wireless page.
I tracked down the 2.71b7 firmware (thank you 2000man!) and I think I may have things up and running. I do wonder why I couldn't find ANY info on this revision on the dlink.ca site. I had to get it from some ftp server out there. Here is the address for any others out there who may be looking. ftp://lizzi555.dyndns.org/Download/W...mware/Rev%20C/
I reset everything to the way I normally have it and both devices are connected and working fine!
I have been checking the log and the spoof attacks are gone.
Now I feel safe and sound once again!
Thanks all for the tips. Im sure I'll have a question or two down the road
Markman
LOL!!! I hit the submit button on the message and the connection dropped.
But, I do think I'm on the right track!
