it just means there is an update to the phone and if you dial *2, and if you are one of the select few accounts your phone will be updated over the air. I have been a sprint user for 8 years and probably had it done twice. Better off going to the store and having it done
what does the prl update effect and is it necessary to do this, often? it would be simple over the air...seemingly should be automatic...but go to the sprint store? i don't even know where one is, lol.

Preferred Roaming List... contains roaming information (e.g. what order to search/use other carrier's signal when Sprint signal not available). PRL s change b/c roaming agreements are dynamic.

Also a Sprint user for 8 years, one of the first 100 in Florida. What are the chances that somehow 20216 will be more advantageous to Sprint than to us?
Should we do it?
I am not a conspiracy theorist however; there do seem to be some things which have come to light that might make one wonder.

You've never had EV-DO before either. As it continues to be deployed, new PRL's will be released and there is absolutely no need to go to a Sprint store to update one's phone for this purpose. Those who have had on-again/off-again relationships with EV-DO and their 6700 may likely find improved performance with the new PRL.

So... Do I hit *2 and do it. I am in a Large Metro area which was way back when, a test area for vision. I have had continual (and as far as I can tell, uninterrupted) EV-DO (as far as 35 miles from my home) with no problem at all since 9-20 when I got the phone.
So there is no reason to suspect that I might have anything to loose by doing this?

The only downside that Verizon users have experienced with one or two prl's has been in early stage of development EV-DO areas. In that case, the main way a 'problem' was apparent was in fast battery draw (which may explain some of the reports here about rapidly depleted batteries on 6700's). Search the 6600 forum for more, if you like.

That's interesting, I just called and told the rep to flag my account for the latest PRL. He did. I called back and it updated. I'm still showing 20215. Soft reset, still 20215.
Think they flagged me for 20215? I already had 20215. :/

Thanks, Maybe I'll wait a while and see what the threads have to say. It seems to work fine as is so If it ain't broke, I'm not gonna fix it... Yet.

Your phone likely had this PRL loaded upon shipment to you. Many coverage areas will vary the same PRL by a digit or 2.

btw , mine took three times (call, finish, hangup) of it saying a free update is available before it worked. call back and try again a couple times. Update in Progress will show on the phone screen in yellow when it actually takes.
OK . . after having my account flagged for the update, it took me about 10 tries with *2 and it finally worked! It is very obvious when it actually does work because on your dialer screen you will see yellow letters that say programming in progress . . . with mine the automated service kept talking to me asking me where I wanted to go then it beeped at me and said it would automatically restart. Now I am showing the 20216 PRL.
ya'll are really wasting your time - it's not like this is a bug fix or anything, it's just how the phone and towers interact with each other... you're not going to notice some big difference to how the phone behaves. don't get obsessed with it, you're not missing anything believe me
