I have had my 6700 for over a week now. Enerything works pretty well EXCEPT the darn add/remove feature in activesync. I have not been able to load anything. I have removed running programs from the tray etc.
I am very frustrated and wonder i f I am the only one having this problem.
Originally posted by URPREY I just install the files by double clicking the .exe-you don't need to do it directly in activesync...
I just tried your suggestion also. When you go to install a program, and even if you click on it like you suggested, it still opens add/remove programs window and then it stalls again.
Thanks for the suggestion- maybe if I get a different tech at sprint, they will have a fresh idea.

Not sure what you're doing but if its opening the Add/Remove Programs, then you're doing something MAJOR wrong. When you click on the exe for the pda addons it should just execute the installer.
Let's back this up and start over to get a clearer perspective.
Are you attempting to install programs on your 6700 after you've downloaded an app from the internet to your desktop? Or, are these programs originating on a CD?

I just got off the phone with PPC6700 tech at Sprint. There is a conflict with Windows XP, SP2 and Windows Mobile 5.0. There have been a lot of complaints to Sprint-but no resolution yet.
I am taking a file (anyfile) and if I click on it to try and install, the Add/Remove window automatically opens and then nothing happens. If I go into the talk list, it says that the program is not responding.

I'm running Window XP Pro w/sp2 and not having issues. Possibly you mean Windows XP Home w/xp2. You really need to give full information here.
From everything you posted so far I would say that you're not doing this right. You don't install PPC addons from Activesync, you just click on the program and the installer does it for you (unless you have a CAB to install). I don't think there is a problem with your phone, I think you're doing it wrong.
Originally posted by br549 OK. Good so far. Now what was your statement referring to? Your PC's system tray? If so, this is unnecessary overkill.
Also, are you behind a software firewall? Yes, this does matter for 'rights' sake.
Lastly, are you able to sync normally? Not add programs, etc ... just sync?

removing running items from the tray is a standard precaution to see if one of the running programs is conflicting. In my case, there does not appear to be a conflict.
Yes I am behind a software firewall -Black Ice'
Normal sync for Outlook items is ok. On the add/remove window. I do not open it myself. Whenever I try to download any program, I click on the exe file and the add/remove window automatically opens. If I go to the task list, it states the the add/remove is "not responding".

I am also running XP-Pro. When I was talking to Sprint, and they told me about the conflict, I forgot to ask whether it was with Home or Pro.
As I said before, I am trying to download exactly how you mentioned above. I click on the program....
I realize you said you've shut down your firewall, but check your program alerts anyway and look for one associated to the PPC.
Do you have Windows Explorer set with permission for internet access? Check for C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\CeAppMgr.exe and make sure it has internet and local permissions also.
Your XP firewall is not active, is it? The 2 firewalls could be conflicting if so. If it has been active, check its alerts also for the above apps. Then you'll only need to decide which firewall you really want to use.

I want to stress the importance of making sure nothing that has anything to do with your nic is not installed. I had a program called netlimiter installed thalet me limit the upload/download speed of anything on my computer, and simply turning that off would not work. I had to completly uninstall that program for AS to work. Just something to look into.

thanks for responding. what are you referring to re: check program alerts and looking for one associated to the PPC? Please explain.
Not sure about your second paragraph re: Windows Explorer. I will check tomorrow when I get to the office.
The only firewall is Black Ice. I do NOT use XP's firewall, but will double check anyway
Any firewall program alerts should reference Windows Explorer or Microsoft ActiveSync if either is your obstacle. Your 6700 will need both of these available to it in order to access and install apps properly from your PC. That's why I said to make sure that both have local and internet persmissions set up. It couls still be a bug within SP2 causing the interference, but let's hope for the best. This was a problem with the 6600 also.

Some of this is above my head. I have PC Anywhere at home so I just logged into my desktop, which is on our office network. Novell! I went to program files/micro activesync/ CeAppMgr.exe. I looked at the properties and there was nothing there about internet and local permissions. ???
If you have rights (and know how) to adjust your firewall settings, all you need to do is to give Activesync permission to access 'local' and 'internet' (Blackice may refer to these 2 areas differently). I have to assume that Blackice contains a list of installed apps on your machine and that you can adjust permissions as necessary (if you have admin rights, that is). This is a common trait among software firewalls.
EDIT: Also, you need to know if Blackice is set up across the network or installed direct to your C: drive on your PC. If it's running across the network, you'll have to work with your network admin to set up the proper permissions for these apps on your machine.
