Wifi with the PPC 6700

Can someone please tell me if you can surf all the websites with the PPC 6700 or just the ebay/mas/yahoo/google that sprint usually gives you access to. I bought one of the old toshiba smartphone from sprint years ago and it was totally worthless to surf websites and send/recieve email.

Also- would i be able to use the WIFI on the unit even if i didnt hook up the sprint
service. Some may ask WHY? but i am looking for a good PDA w/ integrated QWERTY that runs WM5.0 and has WIFI.

Any info is much appreciated

Chris

Thanks for the info...based on my plan of using it as a PDA until i can afford to add another line (i dont want to replace my flip phone) does the PPC-6700 seem like a good unit?

I would ask why you are not just buying a laptop or pda. The 6700 is a incredible beast to just throw away $670 on (after shipping/tax). Is the keyboard worth a $400 difference to you?

I dont think anybody has tried it yet, but I dont see why you would want to. It would be more convienient to just purchase a wifi card for the laptop. They are pretty cheap nowdays.

Onceler, xenophon is saying can you use DUN on the 6700 via WiFi (the laptop has wifi already, the 6700 has wifi).

Laptop -> wifi -> PPC-6700 -> EVDO -> internet

Xenophon, it is known that you can use the DUN via bluetooth and USB:

Laptop -> bluetooth -> PPC-6700 -> EVDO -> internet
Laptop -> USB -> PPC-6700 -> EVDO -> internet

but as far as I know no one has tested wifi. Good idea though, if I'm not mistaken 802.11g has better bandwidth than bluetooth so the wifi wireless tether would be less of a bottleneck than with bluetooth.

I'm guessing you can't do that because then the 6700 would have to act as a router and do NAT. Too bad it's a nice idea.

No, xenophon is asking if you can use it in place of a laptop that doesn't have a WiFi card. This is why xenophon specifically asks about "a laptop that doesn't have a WiFi card"

you're right, I misread it, onceler is right, just buy a wifi pc card or USB adapter. Hell you can get em for less than $10 if you search and are patient.
