Is it easy/possible to ESN Swap? (DONE DEAL)

So let's say I order a 6700 for my company on a new line discounted price. Then 1-2 days later I call Sprint and say I want to switch phones around for some testing I'm doing and that I now want the newly provisioned phone number to go attached to a 6600 and my current number to the 6700. Will this work?

Why do it? Cause my company needs a PPC phone (any phone) and I want to sell them mine so I can get the 6700, so rather than using the company phone, I could use my own and we can test as needed on the 6600, which you can't even get from them now anyway.

Makes sense?

Do you have a third phone not on any account you can use? Reason I ask is that a phone must be fully released from an account before Sprint's system will allow it to be added to another. You may need to switch your line to a temporary ESN to free up the 6600's ESN, then you would swap the 6600 onto your company's line--freeing up the 6700, which you would then switch back onto your line.

Life would be so much easier with SIM cards, wouldn't it?

Not a problem there . . I asked them to switch my phone with my wife's once and they did it without a hitch. Sometimes though they will want a third phone that they can use to "Temporarily" switch a # to in as a bridge between the 2 phones.

Yes, I just do happen to have 2 spare Sprint Phones around (figure I'd keep them for 911's), so we're covered there. I just faxed the required documents over to get the acct. open and the 6700 ordered. I'm calling them in 20 minutes.

Thanks for the info guys!

The order is in the system and we got it for the $479.99 since its a new number. I got the bare bones 35/month +15.00 Vision - so $45/month. After I get the 6700, I guess the next order of business is to do the ESN swap and then hopefully we'll all be happy!

Well, the order is in and I should have the 6700 by Friday. They did make me jump thru a bunch of hoops to get it, even with the Tax ID credit checks, etc). Now let's hope I can do this ESN swap and I can start to enjoy this phone. Looks like this technique shouldn't cost me a dime. I bet I have a few hurdles ahead...

Looks like they are not making this easy. Today I called to inquire about the order and they said it had been flagged as possible Fraud. This probably happened since I paid for the phone with my CC and the address doesn't match my co. address. So now I have to go to a Sprint store, talk to a manager, call Fraud Mgmt. from the store and have the manager verify the Tax Payer ID, Business Lic, Utility Bill, my driver's license and SS Card!!! I was like, dude - I'm just trying to set up a phone account, not move into a building.

Anyway, I'm doing that Friday AM and we'll see what happens after that.

If you make any changes before you've gone through 1 full billing cycle, Sprint will disallow it. (and reverse any discounts that you've gotten on the equipment. Wait until a couple of days before you get your 2nd bill on the account and then make your changes.

Right on, thanks for the advice. I've been told to wait 3 months as well. I'll go ahead and wait one month while I see how the phone performs and if there is even any EV service here in the Bay Area. I'm going in a few hours to give them the info they need, minus the SS Card. I'm not the one trying to get credit.

Well, got to the Sprint store and we figured out all of the issues and the acct is now active. I should have a 6700 soon.

OK, similar situation -- I want to do the ebay guy's $349 PPC-6700 deal which requires activating a new line of service. I'm going to sign up for a 2-line share plan and want to give the new number to my son to use with my current phone, and assign my current number to the 6700. Can I do this right away when I sign up for the new service, or will I have to start off with the 6700 on the new number and then swap ESN's after a billing cycle?

Thanks

take it from me.....don't flub around with the plan until the time-frame has passed that he tells you. moving things around probably has much to do with my inability to get evdo. hope it's just that they're upgrading towers!

I think after one billing cycle is fine. After all this mess, I wouldn't do it before that. Keep in mind, the worst that can happen is they take away the $150.00 rebate for the new line.

I get my 6700 Wed. AM - I think I'm going to try the ESN swap on Friday and see what they say.

Well, I just got the 6700 on the new line and man is this thing bad ass! mspeed test has me at 600kbps here in Mt. View from my desk. Lit up EV right off the bat. Now I just need to figure out a good time to get them to switch my ESN to my usual number, so I can give work my 6600 and the new number. I'll report back when the circle is complete!

This is exactly what I'm doing. Only difference is that I replaced my G1000 with an LG PM325 (using my $150 upgrade credit) So that carrying around a 2nd phone wouldn't be quite so cumbersome.

If you wait until a day or so before your 2nd invoice (your first full billing cycle) you can make changes that will take effect on the next cycle. That's when I'm going to make the swap. I'm going to check and double check that the rep puts everything where it is supposed to be.
