This always leads to some interesting discussions. Not everyone has it as an option though.
I happen to agree with Lee - but then I am *probably* more biased also.
So you advocate buying a citrix license for every server you need to which you need to connect? I've got ten servers at work and three at home. I only need TS access every now and then... Microsoft's RDP protocol is plenty powerful enough to accomodate my modest needs, but Microsoft's PPC client is the pits. It hasn't been updated for years and is practically featureless.
Citrix is expensive, and it definitely has its place for application servers supporting lots of remote users. But for simple administration tasks, RDP by itself should be enough. MS just needs to update its client (or some enterprising developer needs to swoop in and fill in the gap).
This looks like it could be a real sweet solutions
use Nyditot software to set screen resolution and orientation and run the H/PC Pro RDP client (there’s a little fiddling to get this working, but it does work quite well).

Come on Lee. Citrix also has the VNC and SSL/VPN options covered with GoToMyPC and Access Gateway (in case you have any money left over )
Dan - to your points it's a no brainer if it's available or it's coming out of someone elses budget. The only correction I'll make is Citrix is licensed per user (as opposed to per server) nowadays. That comes with it's own pro's and con's of course as licenses (users) can span servers (and even farms) although that gets into an architecture discussion that I'll pass on (mostly because it's somewhat over my head in relation to the knowledge on this board) and comes with it's own requirements. You're point about the gap is dead on - someone's gotta have it on the burner
At the end of the day I'm just spoiled not having to worry about a shortage of licenses. No 6700 yet though is my punishment.
Romulus am i confused or just uninformed? the gotomypc and ssl clients arnt for pocket pc are they? the clients i listed above are for pocket pc and 2 of them are rdp clients (read replacements for the ms terminal service pocket pc client) that lovetochil was bitching about in his post. the one i highlited in bold will scale the screen on the fly so you get the best sceen with the most possible screen real estate and give you an rdp connection to your terminal server. IF, it works on WM5 and IF, it works as advertised it should be a pretty cool client (although its 2 seperate apps).
And this app looks like its "already filled the Gap"
ck out this screen with screen shots of actual remote desktop sessions on a pocket pc .... again who knows if its wm5 compatible yet.
Or just send me $5500.00 and ill send you a citrix 20 user starter pack

Good catch. I haven't tried GoTo on WM5 yet as I don't get to be a guinea pig and have to buy my own gadgets - but it's cake on the 6600. Of course there there are viable alternatives,
The SSL comment was really just a poke at the Citrix acquisition spree and another way to spend money - although they have been great moves to expand product line. Can't wait to play with Netscaler. Haven't dove into SSL use via PDA yet, just haven't needed it yet - but the challenge is now there.
I will need to check out the links as I'm here to learn more than teach. Thanks for the leads.
You could say I have 20 User Starter Packs as long as I keep hitting the "create" button - but I appreciate every User pack you sell. I can probably fill in the rest of your number if I login to work.

thanks for the info.

Yup - similar scale, zoom, etc. to the others. Logmein looks eerily similar. I don't know if the other GoTo products have clients.
For me, screen size becomes the limiting factor real quick once I've gotten past the Look What I Can Do need. My job doesn't require it often - I look to the real IT guys to fix apps and servers from their phones while at their anniversary dinner with the wife and am always thanful afterwards that they know more than me.
That being said - to mcitron's original question - remains to be seen if WM5 TS addresses security needs. If you have Citrix available - knock yourself out - very secure. If not, a VNC that meets your security requirements is probably your best alternative.
gotomypc works great on the pocketpc and is an excellent program but i really am not interested in paying a monthly or yearly fee for it - no matter how you slice it - i'd rather find another viable alternative for a one time cost or free -
i bought mochasoft vnc viewer and have realvnc installed on my computers now and mochasoft does quite a good job though i don't like having to toggle between moving the screen and moving the mouse - it gets rather tedious - also, in landscape mode the remote view does not fill the whole screen i think due to the keyboard? on the right...portrait is kind of unnatural to view a pc screen in but it WORKS and i don't have to pay anything extra...
if someone has tested those programs that lee has suggested on the 6700, let us know how they worked - if i get time i'll try them out if they are free to try

Am I doing something wrong? I install arm4 using activesync and everything looks ok. I get the Citrix client and the Client UI sitting in my applications directory. I launch the Citrix client and it opens PIE at the local host address of 127.0.0.1, never bringing up the Connection Manager. I'd love to use this, so any help is appreciated.
[EDIT] THIS is the client I'm trying to download
[/EDIT]
I just signed up for GoToMyPC (actually, work pays for it so no biggie) and the client works well on the 6700. The speed was surprisingly good (I'm in SF and get ~400-450 kb/s) and it was quite responsive. As far as usefulness we'll have to see how that works out. I'm usually working on database managment and navigating through the screen to manipulate different windows gets a little hairy. I'm pretty sure that a VNC solution would get me the same results as well, but we're a Novell shop and there's no PPC version of the BorderManager VPN client out there.
so far i haven't been able to get terminal services to connect to my computer...it's enabled on my computer, i have port 3389 forwarded to my computer and i'm connecting to my IP...no response
someone help me out plz

yes - from what i understand that's the only thing that needs to be enabled and i can log in from my administrator account...i have windows xp media center sp2...
i have used radmin and vnc for years and have vnc working on my 6700...i also have the gotomypc.com trial running and it's pretty nice too but i want to compare terminal services client as well.
thanks,
-jeff

gotomypc works the best but the yearly rate is really annoying...unfortunetly i want everything perfect so i will probably end up paying it since mocha vnc client on my 6700 has proved functional but not great...i wish radmin would get a pocketpc client - i love that program.
