I have been unsuccessful in getting a PPC-6700 by random calling to the Telesales or on eBay. So, I took my plight to Corporate...

I talked with Sprint Corporate office & they too refused to sell me the phone even after explaining the myrid of ways people work the system to get one. So, being honest does not pay in this case...

They essentially told me that I would have to lie to get one via a Business account...

How many actually got one on a purely personal account?

i got 2 through personal then i also activated it through customer service. I talked to a supervisor of the rep i was working with then he said i would have to make a business line through my personal account. So pretty much this helped solve the business only issue by allowing me to keep the existing plan i had but only bad thing is that i had to change to EVDO data plan instead of my vision with 100 free texts for 7.50 a month..now i have to pay 15 bucks a month without text messeges. Sprint are A-holes for that and screwing the customers over every F-n Q1,2,3,4

i was ohnest and called telesales 9/20 day after release and got one no problem on my personal account. whe i called to activate it the rep had to make my accoutn a business account to add EVDO plan though

Miracles still happen this day and age...
So, after talking to the Corp office who said no way, they transferred me to the Business section again.
This time, when I told them I was a city employee, not only did they sell me the phone for $479, BUT, they let me keep it on my Fair & Flexible account, AND, I now receive a 15% discount on my monthly bill!
So, apparently the first seven CSR's didn't think to sell me the phone under a local government auspice...

Pretty cool. Persistance AND honesty paid off!
I still had to add the Business Pack Special Edition to my service but that is OK. I will likely use those services since it is truly a work phone.
