I have been a faithful i700 user since April of 04. The company I work for has been paying my Verizon bill, regardless of the fact that EVERYONE in the company has Alltel.
This morning the boss told me if I wanted them to continue paying my bill, I will have to get an Alltel phone.
As far as I knew, Alltel does not offer a windows based PDA. I called Altell data support and they said they are planning to offer the Audiovox 6700 before Christmas.
This is too good to be true. Can anyone confirm this claim?
Would it require a major hardware/software change in the 6700 to get it to work on Alltels Network?
I am so glad I didnt buy that i730 yet!
OK here is an update. I called Alltel again, cuz I realy want confirmation. The second lady was in the "Tech support" department. I asked her to confirm the "rumour I had been told" (I did not tell her where I had heard it) She put me on hold and asked her supervisor. She told me that no one in her department has heard of Alltel getting the 6700 or any other Windows based PDA for that matter. Then I asked her to check with "DATA Support" she put me on hold again... when she said that Alltel will be getting a "Pocket PC from Audiovox, but they are not sure what the model is" I aksed for a time and she said 2 months. So..... anyone else have anything to ad? Cross youur fingers and say a prayer that Alltel is finaly gonna catch up with the rest of the world!
Well Yes Alltel is CDMA. Is there any one else out there who knows anything about this? With the targeted release set for Christmas ..... I am surely not the only person who has heard anything about this (Heck, I just learned the difference between CDMA and GSM)
Come on guys... you are the Oricles of the PDA community! You knew more about the Samsung i730 ... 3 months BEFORE the Verizon Reps did! Don't let me down!
Alltel is coming out with the 6700 by audiovox. I have seen a pic of it already and it should be out hopefully before christmas. It is beeing teste d now. Also Alltel is rumored to get the 730 possibly also but that won't be out till 1st qtr of 06- but for sure the 6700 will be out with Alltel.
GIVE ME SOURCES MAN! Not that I dont believe ya, but your a newbie like me. I have seen pics of it too! But nothing yet that has the Alltel logo.
And there are millions of PDA users out there... And you are the 2nd INCLUDING ME to hear about this topic. As far as I know of. We need MORE confirmation! Other wise... I am gonna have to waste my time learning palm... or trying to get this i700 programmed for Alltel myself... cuz we all know those NAZIs won't help me switch over!
I didnt get a chance to ask ... I was so concerned about them ACTUALY getting the device. Data service is not a key issue for me, I currently don't use a PDA for that. I am a Verizon customer, but I live in an Alltell network. Verizons Express Network connects at around 128kps while Alltels Quick 2 Net connects at 14kps... so needless to say .. I dont browse the web too often in my situation. Hopefully Alltel will be updating thier DATA services too.
Well I have another update.
I went into the Alltel store today, they just had a meeting regarding windows based Pocket Pcs for Alltel. It turns out they are not getting the PPC-6700... THEY ARE GETTING THE PPC-6800! Prolly the same phone, but made for Alltel. It is to be available by the end of November. The salesmen I talked to had a bigger chubby about the phone than me. understandable considering the last kewl phone they had to mess around with was a kyrocera.
Originally posted by tbhausen Just curious... What network infrastructure woudl the Alltel 6800 use? How fast will the data be? And what about their voice plan and data rates?
I was told the only thing new, will be the phone, Alltels existing Data plans are in affect and will depend on your area. It sux here, so it never has been an issue for me. I never used my I700 for data either, Alltel offers Quick2Net, which connects at 14k, as opposed to VZW Express Network that connects at 128k... But Alltel and Verizon have roaming agreements, so I wont be seeing VZW in my area any time soon. I am planning on going back to Alltel, the only reason I dropped them was for the I700.
You should see the Apache by the end of Nov. The reason you are limited to QNC on Alltel is because VZW doesn't have data roaming capabilities yet with Alltel. On the contrary, Alltel has access to VZW's EVDO and 1X data areas outside of the Alltel areas. So you actually get a larger data area than any other company out there. You will at least have 1x coverage where you are. The Cleveland and Akron markets have EVDO, but here is a link where you can check and see if you are covered. http://www.alltel.com/business/enhan..._coverage.html
Release date for 6700 with Alltel is Wednsday November 23! And I knew about it in September... neener neener neener! Wow what a long wait to find out if I was right.
Hey guys, check it out. I stumbled onto this today without ever knowing about it before then. I then found this thread in the forum here. Well here you go.
