Ringtones / ringers for individual contacts

I don't think I've seen this discussed here and looked through the threads and didn't find anything.

I am using Photo Contact on my 6600 to handle personalized ringtones. I "thought" that I had read somewhere that WM5 would include that capability but now that I have the 6700 in hand I"m either not finding it or its not there.

If' I'm missing it I sure would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction to set it up, and if its not there I would like to know if anyone has added PC or some other app that will handle personalized ringtones on the 6700.

Ringtones for individual contacts

Hey All,

Anyone know if there are any programs that will allow you to assign individual ringtones to individual contacts in WM5?

I know there was a version of the PhotoContacts program (converted from the Jam i think) which worked on the 6600. Has anyone tried it for the 6700 yet?

Thanks,
-n

Its built into WM5. You can go to one of the contacts and add a ringtone for them. I used to use various utilities to do this but I've been doing it from the contacts built into the 6700 for the last few days.

Edit a contact. You can add a ringtone and/or an image...

You can only add one ringtone/image per contact (would like to have an image per number; i.e. cell, home, etc.)

Wow... that's great. I looked at the edit menu for the contact but I didn't see it at first.

It is in the "edit" feature. If you go to an individual contact and double click it then you will see all of your different phone numbers for that contact. Highlight the one you want to edit and go to menu - edit - then go to the ringtones option and there it is!

You're welcome. This is a nice little device. I've been seeing some complaint threads in here and some have valid issues but the big thing is that too many people expect a device that meets their needs and the manufacturers have to produce a product that will meet a myriad of needs and desires so at times we have to make do.

For the most part I'm pleased with the 6700. No, its not the perfect converged device and the next generation won't be either, it will just be another step forward, just as the 6700 is to the 6600.

Anyone know about a _killer_ distinctive ring program?

I have been searching the web, Handango and this forum for a killer distinctive ring program.

The most common 'hit' is for some photo contact program.

I remember reading about a program that you could configure per contact. Each contact could be configured to allow the call to ring or to get dumped to voice mail. There were different profiles, so you could choose that some numbers would ring M-F/9-5 and then roll them over to VM any other time.

Does anyone have any idea what the name of this program is??

How do you set ringer profiles? Is it possible??

I searched this forum and read the manual... can't find it.

Is there any way to set ringer/sound profiles on the 6700? I usually set three profiles on my phones. Normal, meeting, silent.

Cant seem to figure it out... I want to customize some with various combinations of beeps, vibrates, and bubble messages.

I wasn't able to find anything that would accomplish this using the OEM software. I continued using PhoneAlarm like I did on my PPC6600; at least it had the ability to do this stuff with the OEM contact manager- just not as nicely.http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.htm

I totally forgot this...

There IS a free "profiles" program that works on the 6700:

Phone Profiles 1.2.1

Even if it is dependable it is not timed profiles. We must manually switch them. Only Phonealarm is timed from what I found. This is really the only reason I use PA. I wish there was just a Profile Program that is timed to our needs.

That will not support the other ringtones, only default and wav.
Phone Alarm seems good, big, bulky, way too many features, but works for two problems, missed called, and profiles.

Anybody else have a better proggie smaller and just for profies?

I'm not sure if this would work (meaning I haven't tried it).

With your phone hooked up via USB to the Active Sync (AS), on the AS program click on "explore this device"

When the explorer window opens up, click on "My Mobile-Based Device" and then click on "Windows". This is the folder where all the ring tones are stored (they are stored as .wav files).

I'm thinking that perhaps the phone will only display .wav files as valid ring tones, so make whatever you want into a .wav file (there are tons of file converter software options) and put it into that folder. The phone may pick it up as an optional ring tone when you are editing one of your contacts and you choose the "ring tone" drop down.

I will try this when I get home this evening if someone hasn't already responded and told me it doesn't work.

Edit: I see other files that are .wav that aren't showing up as ring options so there has to be a master list somewhere that you can add file names to. As long as those file names are referenced in the right folder it should be able to pick up the .wav file. Then again I don't know the extensiveness of access we have to the inner workings of these phones (I'm still a newbie on my own).

If you use the phone Profiles and select the first "Windows Default" then you can have different ringtones play...sort of. Basically, if you have a MP3 ringtone that you like to use, go into the sounds and notifications settings and set the MP3 file as your ring. Then, when the first "Windows Default" ringtone is selected in the Profiles, then it will ring.

A nice feature for this program would be the inclusion of scheduling. I have tried phoneAlarm and love the scheduling feature, but I am a little hesitant to spend $25 for that feature...

Thats It, Sounds Great,

I am currently demoing PhoneAlarms, I dont like it for two reasons Price and The Size Bulky SLOW!
But it really has nice profiles, and a good scheduler, I dont need this but you guys insist on it, my schedule changes so much I just set it when needed. It also fixxed the missing alarms and phone notifications that scary bear just didnt touch.

So I am indebate, I will think for it during the test period and I will keep looking back for input if you guys have it.

Thanks
J

In a continuing effort to remove software that may be causing slowdowns, I removed PhotoContactsPro.
I had been reading that PocketOutlook (the OEM contact manager) would allow setting ringtones, so I figured that PocketInformant[2007beta] would have something also. I didn't see anything listed in the contacts so I went to the WebIS forums and Bingo. If anyone wants to know how to make it work, let me know and I'll post directions.

It's working and this thing is actually getting fast!
Not pretty, but much more functional.
