http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed

Use the 600k file. It's the most accurate site I know of.

Try this site and use the text based test.

dlsreports/mspeed is giving me about 278 kbit/sec, which I thought was a bit low. I am inside an office building though and have about 1-2 bars of signal. Will test it again in the parking lot when I leave work.

278kbps is firmly in EV-DO territory. It's on the low end probably because it's peak business hours in a big city (Boston, right?). Just like 1xRTT, EV-DO is affected by the number of other users on the towers at the same time.

Try it again later on tonight, and in the mornings and see if that affects your throughput.

I use that and it allows you to upload a file as well.

HOWEVER, you nee FLASH to use it. You can download flash for you pocketpc here:
http://www.macromedia.com/software/f...etpc/2002.html

I'm not sure if this version of Flash works on WM5. (My 6700 is still in the UPS truck)

Isn't the internal modem a factor as well? I use Sprint's EVDO service on my laptop & get 659 Kbps using the above test.

It's primarily dependent upon load on the base station (tower) and environmental conditions. Different devices have different abilities to pull in signal, true, but I don't think that makes a ton of difference in the throughput (unless you're in a fringe area that causes you to flick back to 1x).

I have the EV signal but sometimes it goes 1x when I'm online. I did the dslreports speed test and got a lame 69KB with the 1x signal. four more tries gave me 602, 686, 731, 702. Aw yeah.

Check out results here...

http://www.broadbandreports.com/mspeed?results=1

There was an entry over 1Mb a few days ago for a 6700. The list refreshes every 24 hours.

BTW, it's surprising how many are getting EVDO coverage. Is there anyone with the 6700 who is only getting 1xRTT at home?
