yeah you knew this topic was coming. figured i'd get it outta the way since i got to tinker with a 6700 for a few hours tonite.
10 6700 Pros Versus the 6600:
1. Size -the 6700 is significantly smaller.
2. Weight -much easier to hold to your head like a normal phone.
3. keyboard is easier to see and use for the most part.
4. WM5 looks a lot more polished than WM2003 (more attention to detail not just shiner)
5. Usable speeddial. when i press 5 and talk I want speeddial 5. WHY THE HELL WOULD I WANT TO DIAL '5' BY ITSELF!!?!?!?
6. stylus placement. since the stylus comes out of the antenna it makes the stylus much more accessible than the 6600s (which is really hard to get to with the keyboard out)
7. the antenna. kinda makes it easier to get out of the included case
8. Mini-usb sync connector. much handier and harder to bend/break.
9. Wifi
10. 4 way navigation stick is easier to use than the 6600s
10 6700 Cons Versus the 6600:
1. Screen Size. due to the smaller formfactor, the screen seems small when compared to the 6600
2. Thickness. holy wow its roughly 1.5X thicker than the 6600.
3. Keyboard is not as easy to access as the 6600s since turning the device seems like an extra step for me
4. Headset jack placement. (its on the bottom) would have worked better on the side or even on the top
5. specs say there is a shorter battery life and due to the battery design(battery and backplate are 2 pieces), i dont think we'll be seeing to any extended life batteries unless they come from UTstarcom.
6. fewer buttons to map programs to.
7. Bundled software. On the cutting edge with Activesync 4.0, Windows Mobile 5, but Outlook 2002 WTH?
8. the antenna. -really limits you on 3rd party case designs. plus the antenna has the potential to act as a lever and damage the phone if its ever dropped and lands on the antenna.
9. camera seemed grainer than the 6600. also FYI: no Picturemail (you can still email one, just cant upload to sprints site)
10. top row of keyboard buttons are hard to use.
remember, this is a YMMV kinda thing and i've tried not to favor one phone or the other. but I am curious what other peoples 10 pros/cons will be.

I was wondering the same thing (as well as the Treo 650 vs PPC-6700.
Can you actually use the 4 way navagation button and not have to use the stylus for the most part? On the Treo 650, i rarely pop out the stylus and that was a big gripe of mine on the 6600.

i suppose you could -its much easier to use than the 6600s i didnt get to actually keep it and use it, just play with it for a few hours.
BTW, -what is sprints deal with having to pu a treo on every damn pocketpc phones box?? the 6600 has a guy with a treo 300 and a what looked like a powerbook (with the logo photoshopped off) and now the guy on the 6700 box is holding a FRIGGIN Treo650!!! what the hell? why is it so damn hard to take pictures of those freaks without them holding phones??

It's definitely a tough call, and I would not blame anyone who stayed with the 6600. The 6700 is definitely steering towards phone before PDA territory. The smaller screen is definitely not as easy to use as the 6600, but for me it is perfect as I wanted a smaller phone with the same functionality, not a watered down smartphone.
Anyone get any firm reports of battery life vs the 6600 OEM to OEM? There was that writeup that WM 5.0 will give you more battery life right out of the box due to the fact that everything is stored in ROM instead of RAM so loosing data won't happen anymore. The specs are fairly close so with the OEM battery the 6600 gets about 4-8 hours of usage (average from my experience and board reports) In theory the 6700 should be doubling that if not more.
I never got 4-8 hours out of my 6600 with the standard battery! Yesterday I did NOT charge the 6700 battery, just plopped it in and it said 100% from the factory. I probably put a couple of hundred minutes on it, in addition to playing with it, at the end of the day I still had 50% charge. So far battery looks nice.
I'm thinking of making this move. I'm probably going to be opening a new Sprint account anyway (just moved 'cross country, don't want to be on a family plan with my dad in NY any more).
I stopped by the Sprint store on Monday and they told me they'd be getting the 6700 "before the end of the month."
The thickness is my biggest concern. I realize the 6700 is smaller in other dimensions, but I really don't want to carry anything thicker in my pocket. That's one thing I liked about the 6600... it seemed thinner than the Treo 600 I had before.
good to hear you guys tearing this thing apart... what im wondering if anyone has ripped the rom out and tried to mess with it since it has the cdma radio stuff on their and used it on the ppc6600 ill try doing that today since my ppc6700 is at my dooor step. woohoo

So SpineDoc honest opinion, 6700 or 6600. Do you think the 6700 is "the bomb"?

Thanks
When I said it was a "tough call" I meant for others on the board. For me it is absolutely everything I have always wanted (until the 6800 ). No comparision to the staticky, huge 6600, but I wanted a bit more phone and a bit less PDA.
5. specs say there is a shorter battery life and due to the battery design(battery and backplate are 2 pieces), i dont think we'll be seeing to any extended life batteries unless they come from UTstarcom.
Size, more phone than pda, keyboard style, nice bubbly antenna (ugh).
I've been toying with the 6700 for a few hours now and its a different animal from the 6600 but I would not say better or worse.
The screen size is an obvious thumbs down if you use the 6600. I use the T650 so its no shock to me.
The keyboard is nice (bigger buttons) versus the 6600 and easier to type with (IMO).
Just briefly..the 6600 by first glance commands respect by its sheer physical appearance. The 6700 looks more like a phone but obviously packs a punch once you get under the hood.
I can't say that the 6700 is such a radical change as the G1000 was when it first came out.
I'll get more input on this tomorrow as I start to get down to pratical use of the 6700.

They actually took out the memory allocation feature in the 6700. I just took a shot at adding some programs (I don't have the new storage card yet since its not SD..grrrr).
Adding in programs I got low on storage memory. Normally, under the 6600 and G1000, you could go in and "manage" your memory by moving the memory slide bar from left to right to use some of the program memory from storage memory and vice versa.
Well, its not there! I looked in the manual and it shows that in order to manage memory, use a storage card.
Unbelievable.
