I just ordered a 6700, and while I have a PC at home, I "live" on a Macintosh. I've owned iPaqs which I synced (with some struggle) with my Mac using "Missing Sync". While Missing Sync works with most Pocket PCs, it doesn't support Windows Mobile 5 devices. So (here's a Newbie question for you): Is the 6700 technically a Pocket PC device or a Mobile 5 device. And what's the difference?

It's both. Windows Mobile is the OS, and Pocket PC (Phone Edition) is the flavor (it also describes the hardware design). There is also the SmartPhone variant of Windows Mobile.
So the 6700 is a Windows Mobile device as well as a Pocket PC
Not sure how you're going to accomplish syncing. You could always get yourself an account on a hosted MS Exchange server and sync your e-mail, contacts, and calendar that way. Or, wait for Missing Sync to be compatible.
Well, I guess that does it for me as far as getting the 6700, I just left the PC world for Mac, and I'm not going back to PC no time soon. Unless someone comes up with a mac compatible solution, I may have to miss this boat.

You can still install software using .cab files by putting them on the miniSD using an SD card reader. I bluetoothed my contacts over one at a time (PITA!!!!) from the Mac addressbook (Send vcard). I just can't get my calendar and todos over. I may have to beam them from my wife's Treo 650
i wouldnt worry about it.
i guarantee there will be a way to sync the phone in short order, theyve got all the other phones...
actually, i wouldn't mind using the PC for just this one thing, since i've got an old PC on a KVM.
because to tell the truth, even iSync is usually buggy as hell..and i'd rather avoid screwing up my mac address book.
best thing for me would be if i could do a one way Mac AddressBook ---> PC Outlook sync nightly. I am sure there are tons of scripts for that.
Then have the peace and security of knowing I am synching in the sactioned way of Outlook--> PDA with no data blips..and any corruption might happen to Outlook, not to my Mac Address Book.
Of course this only works for me because I view the PDA as a read-only device and have no plans to change contact data on the PDA.
Of course there might even be 2 way AB<-->Outlook synch programs.
we'll see. once the pocketmac and other solution come out, i'll re-gauge how error prone their solutions are.

ppcnb, I understand what you're saying, but with all the money being spent on desktops and wireless devices/gadgets, shouldn't someone have developed an app for sync use with Mac & or PC by now? I mean, it shouldn't be hard for end users to have to do a simple sync between 2 platforms. Trust me brother, there isn't any room left in my lil space for another machine, and I'll be darn if I even purchase a laptop just for the sake of syncing...

i totally hear you. sync is a disgrace. thats why 2 vendors mark/space and pocketmac stepped up to the plate. but with convergence devices so big these days sync needs more of a priority and definately robustness, i agree.
as far as sync b/w platforms, i researched them a while ago, i know there are many solutions out there but my knowledge is out of date...
Microsoft's priority has never been to support Macs when it comes to anything other than Microsoft Office, IMHO. It's too bad because, even though I like my Macs for laptop and desktop use, I definitely prefer the PPC OS for my handheld over Palm.

That's why Tiger can run on a windows machine right? MS doesn't have to support macs, just another 3rd party vendor will do fine for me.
Your Windows Mobile 5 handheld device will be supported by the next upgrade for Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. Check back with us in a couple of months.
I use a powerbook almost exclusively, but I also understand that there probably aren't too many Apple fans dying to buy a Microsoft PDA. Apple people are a minority and Apple people with a MS PDA are probably an even smaller percentage. Not saying I don't wish there was better support, but I understand why there is not.
I know of two company's that make it possible to sync a mac with Windows Mobile/Pocket PC but neither support WM5 "yet" am I wrong? anyone syncing to a mac yet?
Originally posted by danzaroni Markspace said they are working on the wm5 version and could be released in a few months.
A few MONTHS!! that want work. I like Mark Space, but they also told me at MacWorld SF in Jan 05 they where working on soon to be released category syncing to the Palm and other features that have yet to materialize.
OK. Starting to get frustrated. It's 2 days later and still haven't gotten a good Mac solution. My real PC is complaining the Active Sync won't work without Windows Updates, which I can't do right now...
and Virtual PC 7 hasn't worked yet. I finally got the WM 5 device to show up to VPC 7 (it wasn't fully snapped in the cradle -- don't do that!) but now I have the yellow exclamation points in the Windows Device Manager. I am reinstalling Active Sync 4.0 now, but this is the 3rd time....
I really thought VPC 7 would have worked. The installation CD is apparently copying come USB drivers into XP. The installation itself succeeds. But the device is never fully loaded into the device manager, hence AS 4.0 can't work.
Without this, PocketMac, or Mark/Space....looks like a real PC is the only way... unless you wan't to individually drag VCARDS over, i think someone said that worked with a 3rd party tool...
