Wireless Modem (DUN) via Bluetooth/USB (laptop tethering) for 6700 and Windows XP

I've read that Sprint will allow DUN on the 6700 to allow a laptop to use the phone as a modem. Has anyone confirmed or tried this? Will it work with BT and USB?

According to the Sprint website, BT DUN is currently disabled but will be re-enabled in a later software/firmware update. No idea on USB though...

For Treo phones, there is a 3rd party app called PDANet that allows BT and USB DUN on any Treo phone. Is there such an app for PPC?

From what the beta tester said, the wmodem program is what is used, furthermore, the people who have received their phones already confirm it IS there. Thus it would appear it is supported.

We need confirmation either way.

Anyone who has one, please confirm the wmodem progrma works. I'll probably get one if the phone is DUN capable.

Excellent. You did a great job hacking the Treo bluetooth DUN and other ROM things. You're a great asset for the 6700 community.

If this board doesn't know who shadowmite is, he is the hacking king of the Treo world.

Besides being "able" to use DUN, I'm concerned about how easy it is. In my G it's only 3 clicks. It sounded like a major pain on the 6600.

I rely on my phone as a modem out in the field for my tablet pc, and if it's a hassle to connect I may wait until the BT is working.

BT DUN on the 6600 was very fast, easy and reliable. I hope the experience with the 6700 is similar.

From my forum:

"Using the WModem program, I had no problem selecting Bluetooth and dialing up on my laptop through the phone."

Do you think WModem was included so Sprint can track your tethered data usage and charge you extra for using it?

No.

Someone who is more legaly knowledgable than I might have to weigh in here but I would say that based on the terms and conditions of our contract with sprint their only recourse would be to cancel our vision service, not charge extra for however much data they determine to have been illegitimitely used.

We have unlimited use of sprints vision service. If they believe that someone is abusing it they may terminate that service and not allow you to sign up for it again, but there is no provision for charging someone selectively for some of their data usage.

Too bad shadowmite's site is classified as a hacking site. Most folks on a corp network cannot see it...

For those that can read the thread, can you post the encapsulated version?

Please?

Here's the thread from Shadowmite's site:

"I have a friend that got his already, mine is arriving Thursday, but BT DUN is disabled but USB DUN works fine."

"My software on my phone is the final production version. So I wouldn't expect any differences there...

I never tested BT connectivity for DUN... really just carry the USB cable, and charge your phone while your on-line Wink"

"Using the WModem program, I had no problem selecting Bluetooth and dialing up on my laptop through the phone."

We use Fortinet (bleh) and it uses a database (ICAN I thought) that ranks sites based on content.

If a site uses the word(s) hack, hacking etc, it gets rated as a hacking site.
