Add internet access to plan first?

So to use your 6700 for internet access for a laptop you have to add the internet access to your phone first right?
I don't currently have internet access to my phone but am thinking of adding it.
I'm hoping there are better options than when buying a wireless access card which has a contract.

Talking Yippee!

Works perfect. I've had this phone since it came out and just now decided to hook it up to my laptop after a frustrating wifi 'coldspot' experience up east. Thanks to all who posted their experiences - MUCH APPRECIATED! I cant wait for the next business trip!

Would this still work if you upgrade to WM6 & tether with a vista laptop?

TIA

Thanks for the info

You can turn the modem up!!
Go to the properties of the modem, and click on configure, then turn the max speed to 921600, instead of 230400

Well I just got off the phone with Verizon. I upgraded to 3.14.30 and Wmodem does not work anymore. I tried running VZaccess manager and ModemLink but you need the $15 per month broadband access option for that to work. So now I have to decide if I want to go back to the old version and lose my AKU2 stereo feature that now works. Sigh.

**WHAT???*** No More Wmodem?

Screw that, your telling me the Wmodem doesnt work at all any more.. and even with the other prgrams you get charged? I was gonna upgrade, but maybe i shouldnt now.
Answer me this.. i have the $45 unlimited broadband would it still work with that? and is the alterative modemlink thing harder? i have actually grown quite fond of Wmodem.

~Thanks~

I've read the entire thread up until this point and this post is exactly why places like this are so awesome.

Thank you Afro for making this zip file. I know this is an older thread and many may have figured out how to do this, but we just moved into a house with no web access and won't have it for another 3 days. This is going to give us the connection we need for the time being.

Thanks again

Sorry to double post so quick, but I had to share my excitement that the guide Afro posted worked perfectly and I am posting this from my tethered 6700.

I followed the word doc in his zip file in sequential order and it worked the first time like a charm. For those that may be wondering what setup this is on:

Dell Laptop (D610)
Windows XP Pro
Active Sync installed but it appears that it is disabled (I didn't change anything)
When installing the modem, I used my sprintpcs vision username and password, and the #777 number as suggested.

On my 6700 I didn't change any other settings. I did not disable wifi, stop data service, turn the phone off, or any of the other things mentioned in the past 27 pages. I also do have third party apps installed on this phone.

Thanks again Afro and everyone else. You have made it bearable to live without our normal web access for the next few nights.

The only question I have is that in my modem settings, 234000 is the highest option I have (and I can't type in the box). Any ideas how I can get it up to the 900 something that was stated earlier?

THANK YOU
