Vista?

Well, still wondering if anyone knows how to tether to Vista? I can't install the modem driver from the Sprint disk. So I have no modem to try and connect with. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I used my 6700 w/ XP - no problem.
Now, can't recognize modem under Vista.

Any source for driver?

If you're on Sprint you can download the latest version of the connection manager for XP - it includes the drivers for the 6700 as well as a bunch of other phones. Install the connection manager with the drivers, install the modem, and then delete the business connection program. The drivers work fine in Vista - but the program doesn't. - sheureka

Just got a laptop with bluetooth. Can anyone direct me to a post that sets out the steps to get this working? Also, can we use this as much as we want if we have the $15 unlimited data plan, or (as I remember) you can use it as long as you dont use tons of mbs. Thanks.

I found a solution to use my XV6700 as a tethered modem in Vista.

The instructions are in the forth comment at the following site:

Hope this helps you guys!

So as I have read time and time again it is virtually impossible to get a new start up CD from any wireless carrier. I can not locate mine for the XV-6700. I could really use the files needed to create the teather link between my laptop and my PPC. If anyone could show a sista some love I would appreciate it!!!!

Getting vista to work is a little tricky, just make sure you have the newest BT drivers for your computer/device and also DONT FORGET that on Verizon you need to enable bluetooth DUN (do a search for instructions). Then you will be able to go to the BT icon in the systray and right click and do DUN and discover, click your device. Key should be 0000 unless you changed it. Then when username password phone number comes up leave everything blank except for phone #. With Phone #put *777. Hope this helps.

New here

I am new, sorry for taking up space on here for something basic.

I wanted to know if someone would be kind to show me the door on the basics of using the $15 vision plan to get the internet on my laptop.

I keep seeing many things about usb, tethered, and bluetooth.

Is there more than one way to do this, and which one provides the best speeds(I assume whenever the cable is plug in) I have not recieived my phone yet, and I dont know why I waited 2 yars to get a phone like this, I had the E815 and never was able to get the internet work on my laptop, I was able to get speeds of 8.4kps, meaning I couldnt get to a website but I was able to use aim. I hope this phone is much faster than that.

Also besides this is there anything else I should use with my phone.

Thanks much love, I am a programmer so if someone wants to show me what to do and any ideas, I would love to help out. I am a java, cobol(yes I know it ancient), sql, unix kind of guy

I have an IBM T41 laptop running XP, with built in bluetooth. With the OEM ROM, I can tether via bluetooth with no issues. Now, I've upgraded to Jeff's 3.5 ROM and have lost the bluetooth tether. The bluetooth driver in my laptop is from Microsoft. It won't accept the Widcomm driver... so I am stuck.

I guess I will have to tether via USB cable. I don't mind that, but I don't know how to set that up. I've browsed through this thread and my eyeballs are about to fall out of my head! This thread is HUGE!

Can someone be nice enough to break down the process of tethering via USB cable on XP?... PLEASE! Thanks in advance.

From the tips & tricks thread (using a verizon phone):

Enable BT & USB DUN
Go to the phone application and dial ##3328873 (FEATURE) and hit dial it will ask for your unlock code, so enter 000000 (six zeroes) EPST will popup and you’ll see two entries: Enable Wmodem and Enable BT DUN. Highlight each in turn and click edit on the bottom right, change both to enabled. Push ok and it will prompt you to soft reset. After soft resetting, you can then dialup via Bluetooth or USB cable. In order to use the USB cable, you’ll need the CDMA USB modem drivers which are on the 6700 product CD under \OEM\APPS\Drivers\CDMA USB Modem. Or download them here: CDMA USB modem drivers. It comes with a dialer program that you don’t necessarily need to use. However, if you’re using the USB cable, you have to start the wmodem program on your PocketPC to keep it from trying to activesync. It’s located in \windows\wmodem.exe. Run this before you connect the handheld to your PC via USB. Then you can just setup a DUN connection in windows to dial #777, use your 10-digit number @vzw3g.com as your username and vzw as the password. Once the connection is setup (assuming you’re using a manual connection in windows) click on the “setup” button in the connection under USB CDMA modem and change the COM port speed to whatever the highest setting you have is. After that, you should be able to dial up just fine.

If I repeat, I am sorry

Alright here is my scenario. I have wmodem installed on 6700. I have downloaded drivers. Plug phone in, recognizes as a CDMA modem loads everything. Unplug, start wmodem, hit start (USB Connection) and plug in USB. Recognizes phone is plugged in.

Now when I run program on the computer to put in name and password it shows in there that I do not have a modem. Can someone please assist me. Thank you so very much.

**EDIT** Fixed problem. Read through more pages of post. Setup manual DUN and all set. Thank you for the people who read my reply, said to self "Dummy!"

First, the phone:
1. Open File Explorer (Start --> Programs -->File Explorer).
2. Near the top left select "My Device".
3. Open the Windows directory.
4. Lower right, tap "Menu" and check the "Show All Files" entry.
5. Scroll down to find "WModem" - the 24B version is the shortcut file. Tap and hold this file and select "Copy".
6. Navigate to the folder Windows/Start Menu/Programs.
7. Lower right tap Menu-->Edit-->Paste Shortcut.

WModem now appears in your Programs area. Start WModem, select USB as the connection type and tap the Start button. If connected to your computer via a USB cable, the phone is now ready to act as a modem for you.

Next, the computer:
1. On the CD provided by Verizon with the phone, navigate to the OEM/APPS/Drivers/CDMA USB Modem directory.
2. In that directory is a file called "CDMA USB Modem Usage.doc". Open it with Word and follow the instructions on how to install the driver on your PC.
3. Once the driver is installed, run the app "CDMA USB Modem Dialer.exe" located in that directory.
4. Username is your phone number @vzw3g.com, i.e. 1234567890@vzw3g.com
5. Password is "vzw".
6. Click the "Dial" button and the phone lights up and connects to the Internet.
7. Navigate to a website with a browser to verify the connectivity.

That's it. The key for me was selecting the "Select All Files" option in the file display on the phone. Without this, the WModem files that are there do not appear. Finding the directory with the files for the PC on the CD supplied by Verizon also helped a lot.

Please forgive the length of this post. It took me a couple days to pull all this info together and thought it might save others some legwork tracking down all the steps.

On the computer steps is there a way to get CDMA USB set up without the disk? I am on the road and I don't have the disk with me... Oh just read the new computer, running Vista will not work can anyone point me to a thread # that has the steps to teather to my new Vista Notebook?

Ok, I had this working for the longest time a couple of months ago. I posted my results to help others. Now I am in a hotel room for the next 3 nights & I can't get my DUN on my verizon xv6700 to work.

I will get remote access error 720 on the PC.

I get "error code 37. Miscellaneous erroneously mobile IP set up occurred." on my xv6700.

Now, when I first did this successfully, I would use the following:

User Name: xxx-xxx-xxxx@vzw3.com
Password: vzw
Dial: #777

Now, in the above post I noticed that he changed the domain on the user name to "vzw3g.com". Has something changed?

Also, when I did it successfully a couple months ago, I used dashes in my username (10 digit mobile #), is that the same?

Help! I can't pay $10 a night to the evil hotel for internet!!!

I used it about 2 weeks ago with my vista laptop and it worked just fine. Now I have not used it since but don't see why it still would not work.

Can you tell me *exactly* how you have the username formatted and what you're using for password (assuming verizon)? I honestly can't figure out why mine isn't working now...

Here's my thing. When I connect using USB my laptop recognizes the connection, shows that I am not connected. But I still can't access the internet, it states that I am not connected. What's up with that?

I am trying everything and still can't get connected. I tried bluetooth and no connection was detected. I even got desperate and called Sprint and the Tech told me about some "Phone as a Modem" plan. I don't know what is being done differently but for the hell of me, I can't get a connection.
