Is there a comprehensive guide to using dun with blue tooth on the 6700? I can't seem to find one in all of these pages...

EDIT: Ok... I figured it out... never mind

just fyi for those who are getting 1010 errors something about bluetooth trying to dial up or something like that...make sure that activesync on your ppc is closed down and is not trying to initiate connections with an exchange server

I am using my PPC 6700 as a modem for my home computer. The directions are completely fabricated as you have to call the Sprint Tech on how to connect. Well if after they walk you thru the process of manually setting up the modem, you can basically get the connection right. Still does not work everytime, just have to take the phone out till the connection is right. Also use the windows connection window and you do not need the sprint modem update. Works for me.

Or you could just use the directions that came with your phone! - sheureka

i have activesync disabled, and Wmodem running on my phone. When I press start on Wmodem, it doesn't do anything. It just sits there. What do I do?

I'm also following these instructions http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/03/h...ternet-access/

sprint must changed things around. i noticed they are selling a modem plan for 40 bucks a month now. i haven't been able to get the winmodem working either. prolly cuz i don't have that plan. as far as i am concerned it's useless anyways. since no one can keep the drivers working for the phone to connect. including me. i've had it working when the second rom update came out. but it didn't want to stay working. and even with the 3rd rom update. it still don't work. like the user says above. PDANET. why screw around with anything else. simple program. no drivers to install. works with my 10 dollar plan that was offered when i bought the phone over year ago. ANDDDDDDDDDDDD. it's letting me download. i couldn't do that before WHEN i was lucky enough to make the sprint program work. it cost 35 bucks for the program. but sprint is now charging 40 bucks A MONTH. it does offer a free trial. and ti comes with evdo boost. my test speed came in at 196. but i live at the edge of the city with very poor signal. but even with the slow connection. internet still works fast. can't wait for xmas when i head across country to be with family. so i can try it when i'm parked somewhere for the night. PDANET. think it was on handango. i googled it to find it. and lastly. it requires the activesynce to connect. unlike sprint that makes you disconnect activesync.

BT and DUN

Hi,

I have read through all of the posts regarding BT and USB DUN. Getting the PPC-6700 through USB took all of a minute or two but I can't successfully connect the phone to my laptop via BT. My laptop (Dell E1405) does not have BT but I have a Kensington USB Dongle. The Dongle does not see the phone as a modem and I have enabled everything on the phone to try and get it to work. Has anyone used a Kensington type dongle to connect to a PPC-6700 (Sprint)?

Thanks,

Chris

besides Spb Diary, PDAnet is my fav 6700 application

hooray! I've got PDAnet running on my 6700 and I am able to connect at 2.2 mbit on my laptop!
now, before I go all out with this, can anyone confirm the hearsay that Sprint will NOT track tethered usage on the unlimited plan?

Why aren't we using PDANET???? Because we're cheap bastards, that's why!

This guide worked great for me:

http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/03/h...ternet-access/

Funny that there's most of the step by step directions right on the Verizon CD.

What I've found is that things work best if you religiously perfom things in the same (correct) order:
  1. Turn off Data Service on PDA
  2. Start Wmodem on PDA
  3. make sure USB is selected in Wmodem, press start
  4. Plug USB cable into PDA & PC
  5. Open CDMA Dialer program on PC
  6. Make sure required info is filled in dialogue box (user name, password)
  7. HIT DIAL (mine for some reason will tend to cancel out if I just hit the enter button on my PC's keyboard)

I've been using this daily for the past week. Works like a charm.

I haven't figured out how to stop the "data call failure" message that periodically comes up on the PDA while I'm surfing. I've also found that incoming calls will ring on the phone and text messages will come through while you are surfing on the CDMA. That's nice. Plus, I'm charging my phone via USB the whole time I'm surfing.

As far as knowing when you're likely to get in trouble with Verizon, I'd say that if you exceed 100-200 MB in an hour or 5GB in a month; you're asking for trouble, as those are the benchmarks that Verizon sites where they'll automatically assume you're doing something that's prohibited:
"A person engaged in prohibited uses, continuously for one hour, could typically use 100 to 200 MBs, or, if engaged in prohibited uses for 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, could use more than 5 GBs in a month."
"Anyone using more than 5 GB per line in a given month is presumed to be using the service in a manner prohibited above, and we reserve the right to immediately terminate the service of any such person without notice."
My advice is that if you don't want to get caught, don't abuse it!!!!!!!! I'm at 100 MB of data after a week or two of browsing when I'm at home after work. Not too bad. If you're using tether to download files or steam videos I think you're asking for trouble. Heck, I think the guy's example of downloading Vista is more than I'd be willing to risk. I mean, come on, where is the typical PDA user going to put a 3.2 GIG file? Yeah, I've got a 2 gig miniSD, but really. That much data in that amount of time is pushing it. Yeah, he'll probably get away with it, but if you are concerned about getting 'caught', then be more conservative.

Angry Can't find wmodem.exe on new Verizon XV6700

Anyone reading this thread who has just received their phones in the last two or three days please check your "Settings -> Programs -> Wireless Modem" and let us know if you have the Wlreless Modem in your unit or not. This should be VERY interesting.

I just received my Verizon XV6700 which replaced a samsung i730 and my 6700 does not have wmodem in the programs folder or anywhere and the PDA. I went through the same problem with my i730 with PC2003 and had to type on the phone keypad **87284 to activate the i730 modem. When I upgraded to Mobile 5 there was an icon in programs which did the same. However at that point I had to purchase a modem tether option on my verizon acct. Verizon told me when I received the new 6700 I would be able to use the modem feature. They were obviously wrong.

Where can I obtain wmodem.exe to install on my new XV6700?

Thanks,
Ed

it,s in the windows directory. it's justa hidden file that you hve to select the option to unhide. I think you just need to check 'show all files'

I checked and don't see any file close to wmodem in the windows directory. All the other programs are there. I think Verizon had it removed. I should be able to find it somewhere on the internet.

Angry Sprint No Longer Sells PCS Vision for tetherable phones!?

I'm a first time poster, a PDA-Phone newb, and newly minted VICTIM (of my own stupidity), I think

Here's my story: I just went and bought a PPC 6700 on Sprint's website (using my company's employee-discount entry to the site), thinking I was getting a low-minutes plan and PCS Vision, so that I could tether the phone to my laptop occasionally.

BZZZZZZT!

Somewhere during the ordering process, the site removed my selection of PCS Vision, and before I realized it had done that, I had already agreed to buy the device and the minimum-minutes plan (200).

Assuming the deletion was intentional (and I think it was), that means I can either pony up the monthly fee ($37 with my company's discount) to add the PAM service, or go without any data access at all. I tend to think that's too much money, atop the charge for voice.

Yep, after all my careful research, I ended up screwing the p**ch after all. Guess I have 15 days to make sure, before I send it back, though.
