Nope. On the "Install From Disc" tab, it reads "There are no device programs included on the disc". There is no OEM option. There are several crappy third party software packages that can be downloaded from the web. That's it.

Is this Sprint's way of trying to disuade us from tethering without the PAM? I find it offensive that they would try to keep me from "stealing" bandwith

FWIW, I just bought the phone today.

This is a from one of my posts from months ago, for someone else who didn't know how to find things on a CD. If you had looked a little harder or done a search on this fourm you would have found it.

Anyway, here are the zipped files. One is a Word file - and gives the instructions on how to set up the modem; one is the *.inf file - the modem drivers; and the third is the Sprint dialer. You don't need to use the Sprint dialer if you know how to set up a regular dun connection. - sheureka

Thanks for the drivers. Works fine -- tested at 535k/download.

allte

I'm with alltel so i already have bluetooth and usb dun enabled. I think my problem lies with the bluetooth on my computer. bluetooth modem is not listed as a choice, only hands free headset and pda connection.

How safe and secure is DUN?

This is more of a question then a response about wireless modem. I got rid of comcast and do all my internet connection with my Sprint PPc. How safe is it when I go online connecting my pc to ppc or surfing on PPc mobile web? With Comcast you had a router and firewall for protection, what security measures if any do we have with DUN? I posted to this thread instead of starting a new one, I hope that was ok since it's about DUN.

I need help getting the USB tethering to work. I have no difficulty with BT DUN.

My problem arrises at one of the first steps - I go into wireless mode, select USB, and click on "Start". Almost immediately, it gives me an error "COM OPEN ERROR". I've tried several soft resets to no avail.

What does this error mean, and does anyone have a solution? People keep mentioning that I have to disable Active Syn - what exactly does this mean? I use SmallMenu to make sure that all programs, including active sync, are truely turned off. Is there anything else that needs to be done? Also, I DO have several BT partnerships, including a headset and a bluetooth GPS receiver setup. Could these be occupying a COM port, and causing this error? I get the same error even when I have BT turned off on the 6700. Thanks for any help.

The modem uses COM8 - so either your GPS receiver (most likely) or your headset is using that port. Check which port(s) your receiver is using - and if you've activated the GPS virtual port, both the hardware and virtual (program) ports need to be something other than COM8 (I have my hardware port set at COM4 and virtual port at COM6). - sheureka

Thanks, that worked! Now I'm connecting at 200-something-k - twice as fast as BT.

I know this is going to seem like I'm a little testy, but you seemed to have found this thread to post in but couldn't find post 442 above yours that gives you all the files and instructions you need? Of course you could also have just looked at the cd that came with the phone and gotten the instructions and files from it but I guess that would have been even more trouble that reading the posts on this page. - sheureka

Tethering Alternate Solution

Tethering: your 6700 with laptop does work and there are plenty of post here to explain how to do this. It is legal, however you need to have a data plan with verizon or sprint. Note, most of the techs at verizon and sprint dont know how to set it up the tethering, so dont waste your time with them, as stated there are plenty of how to's here and on the net to explain.

I personally bought a program called pdanet(http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php) cause it works flawlessly without having to do the extra setup steps required to get the phone to tether with the laptop, which most of the time required me to reset my pda or laptop. I'm not trying to sell for pdanet, but for those who are not tech minded it is the easiest way to use your laptop to connect to the net with your 6700. With this program all i do is connect my phone with my usb cable to my laptop and it sync's and connects to the net automatically through active sync. It even works through bluetooth.

Exclamation working on it...

Hey every one, I posted a set of instructions way back on like page 11 or something of this thread, and it seemed to help a few, but it seems most of you are still in the dark on this... well, lately I have been working on a PDF instruction sheet complete with pictures on how to do this whole process on either a 6600 or a 6700 (I have both btw... ). well, as to why I haven't uploaded it yet... well, this site will take attachments that are less than 1mb... the PDF is 1.21mb and even compressed as a zip, its still 1.1 which is too big. My thoughts are, to split it in 2 documents, one for the 6600 and one for the 6700. The only reason I did everything together is because for me, it was the same process for both. Anyway, anybody got an idea of where I can upload this to and then link to? Or should I go ahead and break it into 2 files, one for each phone?

And this may be a stupid question... but... can you embed files into a PDF? I know I can do links to sites (I made links to a site I know host the drivers for both phones), but I was wondering if I could simply include the files with the PDF incase the site goes down. Or maybe I’ll just make a zip file for each that has the PDF and the drivers... what do you all think?

If you have an unlimited data plan, then no, you won't. Just don't be running a server or downloading files 24 hours a day every day. - sheureka

Well with the Adobe full version you can compress the files down very small. I think it basically compresses them to previous versions of adobe that were less bulky and strips off useless data. Right in the File menu it says Reduce File Size...Try that. I took a 2 meg color pdf and made it about 200kbs
If you don't have the full version im me and maybe you can email it to me and I'll do it.

It's the same as data on the phone alone - it will just pick up the fastest signal that's available. - sheureka
