When I get here
17 Click the start button
18 Connect phone to computer with usb cable
I don't get my system asking me for drivers. Nothing happens it just sits there. In the past when it did ask for drivers when I tried on one of the other 50 occasions it said these drivers weren't applicable for the hardware?
If you are experienceing device errors on your laptop PC when attempting to tether with wmodem.exe, have a look:
The following registry key causes Active sync on the PPC to autostart when plugged into a USB cable:
\HKCR\Control Panel\Comm
"Autocnct = 1" (binary, no quotes)
where a value of 0 disables the autostart. As you have probably figured out, the autostart of Activesync will cause your PPC to be detected as a Pda by your laptop and wmodem.exe will not work.
If you don't want to edit the registry, it is set (activesync app open, NOT plugged into USB) by the "menu", "connections",
"when cradled", "synchronize all PC's using this connection" checkbox is checked. You want to unckeck it and then select OK. The problem lies in deselecting this if you are already connected to your PC by the USB cable when attempting to use the wireless modem app.
Before connecting with wireless modem, unplug your USB cable and make sure this autoconnect feature is turned off. Make sure any data connections are closed. If using the above menu option on Activesync, be sure and exit active sync. Make sure to disable USB connections on the activesync menu on your PC.
Launch wmodem.exe. Select "start", then plug in your USB cable from your PC. If you are still getting device errors, try this:
Unplug USB, then after launching and starting wmodem.exe, press the power button to power off your PPC. Plug in the USB cable to the laptop and PPC, then power on the PPC.
This might solve some of the device errors people are getting as the PC should see the PPC as a modem when you power it on, or if the driver is not installed, a popup will ask you to install the driver file.
Then you should be able to (manual install, you chose the driver option) specify the location on your laptop of the .inf file) to install the driver if it is not already installed.
I am getting "com open error: com8" when attempting to launch the wModem software on my xv6700.It works fine with my xv6600 but not the new phone. I am using Verizon if that makes a difference. Does anyone have a resolution?

Have you tried following the steps in my previous post? Specifically the steps below

Have you checked your Bluetooth settings?
Specifically the "com ports" tab under Bluetooth settings.
I was getting the same problem as you until I deleted the profile using COM0. Tap and hold the line referring to COM0 and it gives you the option to delete it.
I cant be certain as I also tried a few other things, I did not duplicate it. But I began receiving com open errors after adding a couple of Bluetooth profiles.
Wow followed that post and worked like a charm! That was so simple it is scary. That should be the sticky. Hope all VX6700 users see that who might feel intimidated.
The only issues Ive had with post 199(its not the post, just my connection issues)
1. The pasted shortcut to wmodem keeps disappearing for some reason, so I pasted it onto my memory card instead. No idea why the shortcut would disappear, but after 2 tries I gave up.
2. I need to turn off all the antenna connections(phone and bt) then re-enable the phone before starting wmodem.
Used it all weekend, and worked flawlessly. Always start wmodem before connecting the cable. Now, on to bt connections!
One note- why would the Verizon cd have the word doc on how to set up as a modem, yet VZW gives no support nor does anyone there have a clue how to use this?? I would think it would be hard for them to complain about a user using the phone this way, since the instructions are from them!
Really look at #199 and follow it step by step, I was in the same boat with the old one putting it on this edit that copy to there. This was VERY simple just follow along on your PDA as you read and you will see everything.
Just wanted too say thanks everyone. I got a new laptop recently (finally WITH Bluetooth) and I connected it to my 6700. From reading the posts here, it wa piece of cake. I only tethered for like 10 seconds max, but just really wanted to see if I could. Wasn't really trying it for anything else really.
ok just a quick question.. this isn't free though is it.. if i dont have a data plan.. it will just rack up charges right? or is it free at nights? let me know thanks
WOO HOO.. ok i got it to work and i have to say #199 is the answer.. and if I can do it .. anyone can LOL.. any ways.. curious as to costs now...
Thanks guys!

i am on verizon and i have no data plan.. and i got it working but i checked out a site or two to really check it out.. i looked down and saw 699,122 kilobytes or something.. am i screwed? and i can use that cdma dialer to dial up a dialup acct.. when i am some where that doesnt have wifi right?
Damn i just got off the phone with Verizon tech support and Customer care.. i was using there net work but i found out they have two... QNC..."quick connect network" which is slow at 14.400 if i put QNC for the username and password and #777 if i dont have a plan. This must have been the data i used with my Kyocera 7135 back in the day and it was free at night and weekends off my plan minuites......... and the 3G EVDO which is the EN data network.. which you use #777 with your cellnumber@3gvzw and VZW for pass... i racked up 50 bucks last night for just being on 6 mins and checking out the the laptop teathered... so i got on the wireless plan and had them back date it so i covers my playing lastnight!! woo hoo!!
It was a pain in the butt though..... since customer care said " We dont date back data plans!". Thank got the techie from tech support was cool and on my side..
he acutally said " Damn that sux. he shouldnt get charged 50 bucks plus another 50 for the plan!!" and i think the customer care lady heard me say " phuck this, i'll switch carriers my 2 year contract is expiring this month!" and next thing ya know a supervisor got on and said "Sir, we will waive the 48.95 you acrued and put you on the unlimited dataplan, but we are not waiving it again! and only the 48.95 you acred last night.. " and i was like "Thank you" LMAO!!
Hey guys this is the first time i tried to tether my phone via USB. I am at work so i downloaded the HTC USB Dialer and Driver online and got it to find the modem just fine. I start the modem program on my phone then plug it into the USB and then start the dialer program.
It says connecting to the phone i see the send data box light up a few times, the dialer then says verifying username and password which are both blank. It does that for a while then finally comes back with a Remote Access error 721.
Is there something that i needed to do? Am i using the wrong dialer? I don't have the CD with me since im out of town and want to get this working.

Open up your Network connections on your PC. Do you have a USB WModem(CDMA) under dial-up? If so, open the propeties, and insure the Connect Using: is set to your phone. If it doesn't appear, you failed to install the driver on your PC. There are numerous entries in the thread telling hold to do that.
