IMPORTANT: You should use the files in your PDA and your CD. I must have been stupid, but I used the files listed here and ended up with the COM8 port error. If you use the files in your device and CD instead, there shouldn't be any problems.
The files downloaded here are identical to those on the CDROM that came with my phone.
I am getting very good access. I do wish that Charter would let me access their (my) SMTP server from outside. But I can still send mail via the web.
This is working great - even if I only get ev rather then EV from this area.

Is it normal for the found new hardware prompt to come up everytime I use the phone as a modem? It works fine, but it seems odd that I would need to reinstall the drivers everytime I tether via USB.

It shouldnt come up each time unless maybe you are hooking it up to a different USB port each time.
I put the usb drive on my C drive and had it install it from there. Left the driver there incase it wants to look for it again or asks to reinstall.
Each time when I hook up my 6700 via usb and want to tether, I have already started wmodem and hit start before I connect it to the usb port. after hooking it up I get a "Unknown usb device detected" but never asks for me to reinstall it.
I read thru and still have not seen if there is a limit of subscribing to the $15 Power Vision account and then tethering your phone via Bluetooth or USB cable to your lap top.
Is there a MB limit? or is it unlimited data with the $15 account. Sprint now has the tether data for $29 I think. I assume you do not need the $15 account as well...
or can I get everything in the $15 account but just need to worry about Sprint flagging the useage high enough to force you to the Tether Data Sprint Service?

I read through my Plan Details for the Power Vision. The only limitation I found was ... well here it is.
Sprint Power VisionSM Access Pack
Unlimited Sprint Power VisionSM Access includes:
Unlimited Web and Data access
Watch live TV on the go with streaming Live News Channel featuring ABC News Now
Streaming Radio Channel with Sirius Hits
Sprint Power VisionSM is available only while on the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network.
Sprint Power VisionSM Packs are not available with Sprint PCS Connection Cards™, Sprint PCS Connection Kits™ or other devices that can be used as a modem. is our phone considered a modem device?
If so, the plan should have not been offered to us. The WModem program is provided with the ROM image created by Sprint<p>
Customers with a Sprint PCS VisionSM phone or a Sprint Power VisionSM phone will be charged $0.02 per kilobyte for Sprint PCS VisionSM or Sprint Power VisionSM usage unless a Sprint PCS VisionSM Pack or Sprint Power VisionSM Pack is selected.
<p>
I would have to say that Sprint has implicitly allowed tethering by supplying the capability and by not explicitly restricting it. The operative term is Unlimited.
I am using an approved device, have paid for my plan and therefore believe I have unlimited access to the Web. If I desire to port the output of my PPC to another device, that is my business.

Agreed
I still need to call sprint and find out why my vision plan was changed. I used to have the $15 plan. Started it when the 6600 was first released. Than I got the 6700 when it first came out and, 8-10/2005 i think, to my knowledge my plan was still $15. I hadn't requested the price/plan change since the 6700 cant use SprintTV anyway... Just found out that it was changed back when I got my 6700 to the $20 plan...
The $20 Vision plan seems to be the standard that they try to push. I just got a new Sprint phone and the sales person tried to push the $20 plan and I had to forcefully ask for the $15 plan.
I am having the same problems as HailRedskins and Stealthy_C. I am able to connect via USB, but only at a max of 230.
In Windows XP, I click Start...Settings...Network Connections...I right-click "USB WModem (CDMA)"...then click "Properties"
I see "Modem - CDMA USB Modem (COM5)" and click the "Configure..." button. I am allowed to increase from 230400 to 460800 or 921600. If I choose either of these higher speeds - I recieve the following message "Since the connection is currently active, some settings will no take effect until the next time you dial it.". I disconnect and reconnect (using Wireless Modem on my 6700) - it will only connect at 230400. It seems to be a Catch-22
***PLEASE NOTE: When I go into Device Manager on my XP SP2 laptop and click Modems...I notice "CDMA USB Modem". I right click on this device and click properties...I then click the "Modem" tab...under "Maximum Port Speed", the highest number is 230400.
I used the "CDMA USB Modem.INF" driver that came with my Verizon XV6700. It is dated 7/27/05 and has a size of 51K.

it is settings its self back to 230400 each time because you are using WModem on your PC to connect to your phone.
In Network connections - Right Click USB WModem (CDMA) - Create Shortcut and it should put it on your desktop, double click the shortcut and use this to connect to the internet via your phone. Dont use the .exe you have been using.
Or instead of creating a shortcut just go into your network connections and double click the - USB WModem (CDMA) - and it will connect.
I have enabled WMmodem and it gets me to my connection screen. I can start the service, but nothing happens afterwards. I get an error saying unknown usb device and I try to install the correct drivers, but it says that the drivers I point to aren't applicable to my device. Can anyone help with this.
I have tried following multiple threads directions, but to no avail..
Tethering your Verizon 6700 as a Wireless Modem through USB
Here is a list of instructions that I wrote for USB tethering with Verizon and the 6700... Don't know if it is relevant to your problems or not, but figured it was worth sharing.
One-time Setup
Connect your phone to Activesync and then click the explore button
Navigate to the windows folder and copy WModem.exe to your local HD. (if you can't see the file, then make sure "show all files" is checked - located in the menu of File Explorer on the phone)
Bring up the command prompt and change directory to the folder that you copied the file above to
Type, "attrib -r -h -s wmodem.exe"
Rename the file to wmodem_fixed.exe
Disconnect phone from Activesync.
Disable USB connections in Activesync (File > Connection Settings > uncheck "Allow USB connections")
On the phone navigate to the windows folder using File Explorer
Tap and hold the wmodem_fixed.exe file and choose copy
Navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Click Menu > Edit > Paste Shortcut
Rename shortcut to "Wireless Modem"
Go to Connection Manager and turn off all connections
Then turn just the phone back on
Go to Start > Programs > Wireless Modem
Click the start button
Connect phone to computer with usb cable
When prompted for drivers, point it to the drivers you downloaded and extracted
On your computer go to Network Connections and create a new dial-up connection
Call it 'Verizon Wireless', phone number to dial is #777, username is <your wireless phone number>@vzw3g.com, password is 'vzw'
Click Dial
When finished, disconnect phone from USB and re-enable Activesync USB connections.
Each time you need to connect
Disable USB connections in Activesync (File > Connection Settings > uncheck "Allow USB connections")
Go to Connection Manager and turn off all connections
Then turn just the phone back on
Go to Start > Programs > Wireless Modem
Click the start button
Connect phone to computer with usb cable
Double-click on 'Verizon Wireless' connection and choose dial
When finished, disconnect phone from USB and re-enable Activesync USB connections.
These instructions have worked for me on at least 3 different xp pro machines. The steps must be done in the right order or they will fail. Hopefully this is helpful to some of you
I am entering the second 24 hours as a 6700 user and I LOVE IT!!
I am just technologically illeterate enough to get myself in trouble. I want to try to use my phone as a modem, but I am afraid that spirit will somehow charge me for it. As long as I'm not going crazy with my useage, there is no way for them to tell that i'm using it through my laptop, right? My experience with sprint is that they will charge you for every little thing they can.
I have unlimited power vision free for a month, Then I leave the country, so it doesn't matter anyway. I'm gonna see exactly what they mean by "unlimited"
I have an issue with my verizon xv6700. I'm able to stream media thought
the verizon evdo network but I can't stream more than 1 song at a time
If I'm playing net radio I get one song and then I have to reconnect to the
webste to play another song. I have pretty much the same issue when I
try and stream a playlist from my pc to my xv6700 via orb. It looks to me
as if verizon has disabled something in windows moble 5.0 so that you can't
stream media effectively. If anyone can offer a solution I would be very
thankful.

You can see my post above about my contract where no limits are imposed or implied. Be careful about you free time. I got my phone for X-mas from my wife and she believed I was on the 1st month free. Within 2 weeks I signed up for the Power Vision and in my first bill I was billed $.02/KB up until my Power Vision plan went into effect. I had to threaten to drop Sprint to get them to remove it from my bill. I was $180 different.

Here you go. These instructions are good and come with screen shots. The drivers and stuff you need are on the 6700's product CD in \OEM\APPS\CDMA USB Modem.
Enjoy.

OK I did a search on my computer and dont find either the CDMA USB Modem.inf file or CDMA USB Modem Dialer.exe file. Where or how would I load them to my notebook?
is there a way to disable image compression when thetherd via phone to notebook? browsing the web looks like ass.. thoughts?
What you can do is refresh the pages when you do this it loads the image the right way not compressed. There is a way to disable the compression but cant remember where it was posted but it only disables it on the phone not when you hook up to laptop.
HELP!!! I'm a new pc phone owner, and I am having some trouble. I own the xv6700, and have followed some of the posts on here to be able to use the phone as a modem. Now I am having some of the following issues. 1)After following the steps, when I try to connect to my laptop after having loaded the modem drivers, it shows that I have connectivity, but the pages won't load. 2)When using the phone as a modem, trying to hook-up is not a sure thing either. Have to dial-up many times, before finally getting through. Most times message comes up that there is not dial tone.
Any help will be much appreciated.
thanks!
