Go into your computer's Start/Connect To folder and right click on your connecton and select Configure, then click on the "Configure Modem" button and select a higher connection speed. I use the 460kbps option.

How do you get that setting to stick? I edit it and set it to 921600. Than reconnect and it switches back to 230400.
I just noticed under my Device Manager under the CDMA1X UBS Modem. The Max Port Speed is 230400, and can't be set an higher. So I need a different driver? I am using a 6700. And I think that old driver is from when I was using my 6600
Could someone please point me towards detailed instructions that explain how I can use my ppc-6700 as a means of providing internet access to my laptop? Via bluetooth would be especially wonderful, but IRDA will do if necessary.
Wow this is truly amazing...now I know how Ehud became such a cynic on this site....if you just READ THE PREVIOUS POSTS, this was asked like 5 times....come on, do your homework!

Hi, folks. I've read pretty much this entire thread, and I still haven't been able to get my iBook G4 (Mac OS X 10.4.5) to tether to my XV6700 (Verizon). I've been trying to do it through USB. I've just ordered a bluetooth USB adapter from Amazon, it'll be here tomorrow, hopefully I'll be able to figure it out with BT. If anyone can help me get it working with USB, that'd be great. Thanks.

Yea, I have yet to get my 6700 (Sprint) to tether with my G4 via BT or USB. =(

the insructions/discussion in this thread is primarily for tethering to a Windows XP computer, they aren't really intended for a mac. Sorry for any confusion.

Yes Marty, I know that. I was hoping that some Mac users on here would know how to get this working. However, I just discovered this old thread, which has step-by-step instructions for tethering with BT on a Mac. I was really hoping someone had figured it out with USB, but at least this will work. Now I just have to wait for Amazon to send my USB BlueTooth thing.

You said that you had read this entire thread and still weren't able to get it working which to me made no sense because, as we both know, this thread is for 6700 + XP, so obviously, following the instructions listed here will do you no good, thus why I made my previous post. What I was also trying to imply was that since this thread is for XP instructions, you were posting in the wrong place and thus were unlikely to get any help in this thread. You should post to that old thread that you located and hopefully someone will be able to help you there (in fact, I will move the post for you). Many people do not even bother to read this thread anymore because they know it is for tethering in XP and that issue has been solved a long time ago.

I see. There were a handful of posts in this thread asking about Mac OS X, so I thought I would try posting here. Plus, it's a sticky, so I thought it couldn't hurt.
Anyway, I solved the problem by finding another old thread on this forum about dialing in some Verizon code and enabling BT DUN, which appears to be disabled by default on the XV6700. Once I turned that on, I got it working.
Has any one been able to get BT DUN working with Alltel?
I have followed all of the directions given in this thread to the T.
My laptop or any other computer I plug my Bluetooth Dongle into, does not detect a BT Modem.
When I try to create the connection, the only modem my computer finds is my fax modem.
I am beginning to wonder if perhaps Alltel disabled BT DUN.
Could it be my BT Dongle?
When I first got the phone back in November '05 I was able to successfully tether using bluetooth on my Sprint 6700 and a Windows XP laptop, but I tried it again last week and I got a message saying that tethering was not allowed.
Wow! I finally figured it out! My husband figured it out through USB and just now I figured it out through Bluetooth on my laptop. I'm Connected right now. If this posts then it really works! This is too much fun.

1. Go to the PHONE application
2. ##3328873
3. enter code 000000
4. Select BT DUN
5. Click Edit
6. Choose enable
7. Push Save / OK
8. Push Ok
9. follow the prompt to restart your device
restart, discover services, and voila! you've got bluetooth DUN available.
I have a ppc-6700 and while using wmodem, the computer sees it as a modem, and I can tell it to dial from either the dialer, or from windows Connect to, but all I see is a blue "Send Data" button glowing for half a second then nothing after that, and I get no indications of error, or of working. I have connected with my old 6600 before.
I'm using Bluetooth DUN with Win XP WITHOUT wmodem--it's not needed. That may be your problem. Just pair your phone with your computer over Bluetooth, then create a new network connection on your computer like you normally do and when it's time to select a modem select the "Bluetooth Modem" option. Enter your Sprint user name and password and it works.
You Mac guys won't be able to tether with USB until someone provides a Mac driver. I'm in the same boat with Win XP 64--no driver is available so I have to use a slower Bluetooth connection.

OK, just tried the above procedure for turning on BT DUN on Verizon and I'm posting this while connected to the phone. I changed the max connection speed to 921600 in the modem properties section.
Just dslreports and i got the following results: (it di not let me go to the mobile page, kept redirecting me to the regular speed test page)
--------------------------------------------------------------
dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-03-16 00:20:23 EST:
137 / 113
Your download speed : 137 kbps or 17.1 KB/sec.
That is 77.9% worse than an average user on myvzw.com
Your upload speed : 113 kbps or 14.2 KB/sec.
That is 47.4% worse than an average user on myvzw.com

this is MUCH slower than when i'm connected via USB cable. (which is expected for BT)
Also, the other odd thing is that on the phone, it does not show that i'm connected in anyway. the EV symbol does not have the double arrow showing a data session. the phone looks like it's just idle.
In case there are those facing this terrible problem. I've had this phone for about a week and had the hardest time using the tethering feature.
First of all, all the software you will need for the feature comes with your device. On your PDA side, the wmodem.exe file is already in your PDA int he Windows directory.
Second, the CDMA1X UBS Modem file is IN YOUR CD. This is the same CD you use to install ActiveSync, which you received from Verizon.
IMPORTANT: You should use the files in your PDA and your CD. I must have been stupid, but I used the files listed here and ended up with the COM8 port error. If you use the files in your device and CD instead, there shouldn't be any problems.
IMPORTANT: You don't need to change the attributes of your file. I also don't recommend overwriting the Wmodem.exe file with one that you download. If you use a 3rd party file explorer (like Resco), you can view the hidden and system files. That way, you don't have to change anything. Just create a shortcut to the application into your programs folder and you're set to go. After that, I didn't get the com8 port error anymore.
