If you have a BT on your laptop or desktop it's fairly easy if you have subscribed to your carrier's EV-DO service. Be sure to enable your bluetooth on your 6700 and make it discoverable. On your laptop or desktop pair your device up and search for available services on your phone. It should locate a DUN modem. Next go to your networking properties and create a new dial up connection and when you get to the part for selecting a modem us the bluetooth modem. You will require you username and password for it to work this way so if you don't know it get that info from your provider along with the access number because you'll need that too. You do not have to enable the wireless modem in programs to access the modem on your 6700 using bluetooth. Or you can use the usb cable if you have the modem drivers installed and you can refer to the post prior to this one for that.
VX6700 using the advised changes and getting similiar Com 8 open error. Winmodem was not installed on the device when I got it just like the 6600. I can not find what is using com 8 to close it or change it. Any ideas help?
I am familiar with the 6600 setup so have fair understanding of the setup before hand.
I picked up a 6700 yesterday and I'm using it with both my laptop and desktop through Bluetooth for DUN access. I signed up for the $15 Vision plan. My 6700 does occasionally lock up (requiring a soft reset) during DUN sessions though. I haven't tried the "Wireless Modem" USB tether yet.
I called Sprint today to make sure I wasn't getting charged for some "premium" service.
I did as mentioned earlier, paired the PDA and laptop using the laptop's Bluetooth management program, then added a new connection to the laptop and selected the "Bluetooth Modem." You need to use the user name that's listed on the 6700's "Settings/Device Info" page. The password is my standard Sprint PCS web page password. The number to dial is #777.
Thanks to all I was able to get a USB connection on a Win2K laptop up and running. The only downside is that the connection is limited to 230K because of port limitations on Win2K.
My Verizon XV6700 had two different WModem files in the \Windows directory. The larger of the two kept me from loading the driver on the laptop. The smaller WModem running on the 6700 worked perfectly with the modem driver on the CD included with the PDA.
Thanks again!
It DOES work well with Win2K. Now I don't have to VNC or Terminal Serve from the PDA while on the road! The idea of all that scrolling was depressing so I am very happy I can do the work on the laptop.
I'm using XP to tether with my 6700 via usb 2.0. Everytime i initiate the connection it always connects at 230.4kbps No matter my location. Any idea how to increase the connection speed? It seems to be locked at that speed.

"This is my 6700. There are many like it, but this one is mine."
I tried to install the USB "Wireless Modem" on my laptop running Win XP Pro 64 but the driver's supplied by Sprint are just for the 32 bit version of Win XP. But I can use Bluetooth to connect with no problem.
hokay, so ive got a powerbook G4 and ive had limited success in using either the sprint or verizon 6700 (yeah, shut up, i have both, long story) as a wireles modem...
it goes something like this:
1)pairs fine
2)dials fine (using WModem on the sprint, not using it on the verizon)
3)connects ok
4)arbitrarily disconnects
5)gets stuck "disconnecting" according to the DUN system in OS X
6)phone usuall requires a soft reset
7)connection time/data usage has no bearing on this...ive had it work for 15 seconds, but also for 3 hours no problem, all with pretty heavy usage (i.e. 10 or 11 tabs in safari at once)
I found the best solution to the crappy image problem!
Images viewed over Sprint's EVDO connection look crappy because the Internet connection is going through a proxy server at Sprint that is "optimizing" the connection for speed using Bytemobile's software. It turns out that the software is "optimizing" a lot more than just images to make the connection seem faster.
This annoys me! The whole point of broadband speed is that it doesn't need to be "optimized". Do I run software at home that makes images on my DSL line look crappy just so that it seems faster? No!
People have found workarounds to the image problem by refreshing the page, or telling their browser to pretend it's Blazer. Well, it turns out that Bytemobile's software allows the end user to disable the "optimizations" without having to resort to workarounds. The problem is only that Sprint didn't make that choice available to its customers!
Here's how to disable the "optimizations" on your EVDO connection through Sprint. This works only on Windows:
Click the ">>" button to move all of the protocols to "Unoptimized".
Click OK.
Click OK again to close the program.
Start your EVDO DUN connection as usual. No more crappy images!
I learned this information from reading a message by billatq in this thread at EVDOforums.com.
I would welcome a similar Linux solution to this problem. For my Linux laptop I plan to bypass the filtering proxy by surfing through a VPN connection, but that's not as ideal because the VPN will add some overhead.
Try as I might, I cannot get my PPC-6700 to advertise any services over Bluetooth other than "OBEX Object Push" and "Voice Gateway". Dial Up Networking does not show up. This is true on both a Windows laptop and a Linux desktop.
I recently read that Bluetooth 1.x (what the 6700 uses) is slow enough that it will impact EVDO Dial Up Networking. I just tested my Bluetooth and USB DUN speeds and this is what I got:
Bluetooth DUN 101kbps download, 69kbps upload
USB Tethered DUN 202kbps download, 88kbps upload
The Windows connection message said Bluetooth was connected at 115.2kbps and USB was reported at 230.4kbps. Tested at www.broadbandreports.com. The phone was tested for both connections while sitting in its charging cradle. I only show 1 bar for signal strength and the EVDO icon is showing.
I went into Win XP's Start/Connections folder and right clicked the Bluetooth and USB connections and selected "Configure Modem" and set the "serial port" speed to 460k on both connections and re-ran the test:
Bluetooth DUN 127kbps download, 67kbps upload
USB Tethered DUN 258kbps download, 63kbps upload
The Windows connection message said the Bluetooth and USB connections were connected at 460.8kbps. I think this shows that the connection speed reported by Windows when you connect has more to do with your configuration settings than actual EVDO or 1X connection speeds.
If you have the ability to use a USB cable it's worth it to plug in and use it for DUN. The 6700's cable is a standard Mini-USB connector. You'll also charge your phone as you surf.
The modem will not show up where you are looking. After you pair the 6700 with your compter just go to Start/Connections/Show all Connections/New Connection on your computer and define a new dial up internet connection. Select the Bluetooth Modem when it's time to choose the modem and you're golden.
I'm using XP to tether with my 6700 via usb 2.0. Everytime i initiate the connection it always connects at 230.4kbps No matter my location. Any idea how to increase the connection speed? It seems to be locked at that speed.
Go into your computer's Start/Connect To folder and right click on your connecton and select Configure, then click on the "Configure Modem" button and select a higher connection speed. I use the 460kbps option.
Here are my settings on the PDA
Start > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > Mode
Turn on BT (Checked)
Make discoverable (Checked)
Start > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > Devices
My laptop is listed and paired
Start > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > Devices > Partnership Settings
ActiveSync (Checked)
Hands Free (Unchecked)
Dialup Networking (Checked)
On my laptop
My Bluetooth Places > Pocket PC > Discover Services
I get "OBEX Object Push" and "Voice Gateway" only.
Again no Bluetooth modem is detected or available for me to create a connection against.
With my v710 Dialup was discovered service and my computer detected and installed the bt modem automatically.
Has anyone had success using an infrared interface?
Same question here. USB and BT work great. There may be the case when I don't have my BT dongle or USB cable with me. Is it possible to connect via IrDA. If so, how?
On my laptop
My Bluetooth Places > Pocket PC > Discover Services
I get "OBEX Object Push" and "Voice Gateway" only.
That's what my laptop shows too, so you don't need the BT modem to show up there. Create a new internet connection by going to Start/Connect To/Show All Connections/New Connection and define a new DUN connection on your laptop. When it's time to choose a modem, the BT modem should be listed, it was for me.
I don't have a computer with an IrDA port so I can't help you other than telling you the instructions are in the manual (I've seen them but haven't read them).
downloaded it the other day and all of a sudden it doesnt work. i tried everything and have redownloaded it numerous times. does anyone know any other optimizer to make images apear better on web pages. any info would help.
