I am able to tether with the USB cable, haven't really tried the bluetooth as my laptop doesn't have it built-in. Since we are using laptops, I was wondering if the 6700's are charging their batteries from the laptop battery if connected via the USB cable? It did seem as though my laptop battery ran down very quickly having it having it tethered. More so than when connected through wi-fi . If so, would using a bluetooth dongle be less of a drain on the laptop battery?
i followed the instuctions.. it works so easy.. if you think its too hard.. put the phone back into the box and send it back.. this phone is made for people who are some what technologicly inclined (SP?)

OK, after running through the 11 pages worth here, looks like it’s an on-off working with Bluetooth, but everybody has USB working fine. Thought I’d add to the barrel how I did this, and thus far, it’s the simplest version. (And if anyone has mentioned this else where, then I missed it, and sorry for reposting)
For USB: this is simple.
1) Run Wmodem, set as USB and click the "start"
2) Plug in the USB, and make sure you have the drivers
-side note here, I made a copy of the drivers in the "windows" directory, "system32" directory, "INF" directory, and the "drivers cache" directory, just incase windows decides that it wants to randomly re-install the drivers... stupid windows... ahem...
3) Under network settings, hit "add/create new connection"
A) You want a dial up connection to the internet
b) Use the phone modem (I think it shows as "ppc6700 USB modem" or something)
c) Use the number "#777" (*this is for sprint, refer to past post for verizon) and your user name and password for the log in.
4) now, (optional) create a short cut on the desktop for it, and now, every time you connect with that, it'll work. The other settings such as "default internet connection" and such are up to you. also, if you are like me, and have a built in modem on the laptop/computer, disable it, or make sure its using the phone as the modem every time, not the built in. I disabled mine, because I never use dial up when I got a gigabit LAN card, wifi, and my 6600, or my gf's 6700, thus making which ever phone the default modem to use every time.
Now for Bluetooth...
1) Don’t use wmodem; it’s never worked for me...
2) Pair the device, let windows do all the work, there’s nothing special that needs to be done. Make sure "dial up networking" is enabled on the phone under Bluetooth services.
3) Under network settings, create a new connection like above, only this time it should have the option of using the Bluetooth modem instead. Same log in info, and everything.
4)same as above, just hit the connect, and the first time will make the phone ask for authorization to allow the computer to use that service, hit ok, after that, it shouldn’t ask again. And a dialog will come up saying something about "Bluetooth dial up network established" and that’s it... I get anywhere’s between 110-160kb/s using bluetooth, and with USB, my 6600 sometimes hits 400kb/s while the 6700 hits 900 when in the EDVO area, but only rarely, and when the damn thing is working...
Hope this helps a little, any questions, send them on.
I am still getting an error trying this on my Verizon.
ANy thoughts. See attached image..
Well, i dont use the dialer program that comes with the phone... as i said, i have it set up using the network connection. and unfortantly, i am a sprint user so i dont know much about verizon. but error code 680 means there is no dial tone. also, i dont think verizon uses #777, sprint does... but i dont think verizon uses that. on my sprint phone, in the internet settings, it has "#777" as the number to dial... but for verizon, you'd have to put what ever number you use to connect on the phone. cause when the wmodem program is activated, the phone turns off giving no dial tone... which would cause the 680 error... but find out what number to dial off of verizon to connect first, and use that. my example was written for anybody, but verizon users would need to replace the #777 number with the number verizon uses.

they just told me that you have to buy the $39.99 plan if you want to use phone as a modem....this is because people were abusing the service before...so now they have to pay for it....thats robbery
so I see that everyone with sprints version ppc-6700 is abot to tether to their pc but the question I have is: is it possible with verizons xv-6700? I just got mine and I canceled my internet at home simply because I heard that you could. I am really hurting without being able to go on a regular computer so any help would be MUCH appriciated. also I am not very technically advanced so if you could give me directions as though I were an 8 year old that would also help. feel free to email to randazzo8@msn.com
Have set up as USB connection. Tried to attach the pdf guide here so hope it works. The driver is apparantly the same as the Harrier. Can't get a driver to run it as an infra red connection. Does anyone have one?
Also, on USB the the phone sometimes freezes at the point the connection is verifying. Can only be resolved by a soft restart. Anyone had this problem?
When I try to connect with mXZ6700, my laptop asks me to insert my windows XP machine. Does anyone know why this is? Is this a bug, has anyone else run into this.
If you are using a usb tether you have to start the wireless modem before you plug the usb lead into the device. It will show the 680 error everytime if you don't.
Do you have the driver installed on your laptop correctly? Have a look at the attached and also the pdf attachment I posted yesterday. I could possibly email you the driver if you don't have it.
I think I dumped the program off my system after I got those errors and I did check you the pdf. Could you package all of the necessary files and perhaps include the SYS one?
