New Life for my 6700

I've had my 6700 going on three years now, but the last few months were rough.

I had to buy a new desktop and my 6700 would only sync with Vista occasionally, no matter which trick I tried. I gave away my XP laptop to my mom. With no sync capabilities, it was just a barely functioning phone and sudoku device.

So I finally got a Palm pre and I'm happy with it. I'm now reflashing my 6700 and loading communication software from RJ Cooper onto it so that a girl I work with can use my 6700 to speak. She has Down Syndrome and people around her cannot understand her speech.

This message has two purposes:
1) to solicit any advice you might have on how to get my 6700 backup to speed. I'd tweaked it and played with it so much over the years that I don't remember what I've done. The hard reset is good, but did it wipe out any/all updates to the ROM? If so, can you all help me remember how to update? I'm hoping that the hard reset will make it sync or at least communicate with vista a little bit. (It wasn't syncing well with hubby's XP computer until this reset.) Any ideas on how to help with the sync issue?

2) If this works, and you have a windows mobile device ppc 2003, wm 5, wm 6 sitting around that needs a home, let me know. I can put it to good use with a kid with a disability -- either as a communication device for my kids who are nonverbal or as a stand alone (or even synced!) organizer for kids with asperger syndrome..

Thanks!
Any and all help appreciate!

First of all, good for you. Glad to see someone willing to help out their fellow man.

To address your first issue. No matter what you've flashed on the PPC-6700, it can be overwritten. I would suggest you go and download the latest factory ROM from UTC or whoever your provider is (mine is Sprint).

The benefit to this is: the factory ROM is stable, so you don't have to be her "tech support" for the rest of your life Besides, if she ever leaves the company, she won't have to worry, either.

Of course, unless the software needs a newer OS, then I would reflash with one of the stable cooked ROMs that are floating around. In this case, less is better!

Good luck!
