What's wrong if my XV6700 suddent cannot access home WiFi?
I need help, please.
My XV6700 cannot access my home WiFi.
Interesting ly, my XV6700 can access other secured/non-secured WiFi other than my home WiFi.
Similarly, other WiFi devices at my home (laptops, Squeezebox) have no problem accessing my home WiFi.
That would probably mean that my WiFi router is okay, and the WiFi Lan card inside my XV 6700 is also fine, but the two do not connect for some reason.
what were you doing prior? install, uninstall anything? --> Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
delete the router info out of your phone and re enter it. --> How do you do it? I'd like to give it a try.
take the battery out of the phone--wait about 30 seconds, reinsert.--do this after you have tried the above and that has not worked... --> Nope, doesn't work.
Depending on the version you have on your phone...
Press the Change Network button.
Hold down on your wireless network in the list until the menu pops up and select Remove Settings.
--> I've done it, but still, it can't connect to the Wifi. My homenetwork shows up on the network list, but when I make XV6700 try to connect it, it just keeps on saying "connecting" but never connects.
Can you access your wireless router from any other device such as a computer? --> Oh, yes. My laptop, my wife's laptop, my squeezebox, etc.
you say you are able to connect to other WIFI spots.. can you confirm you are able to actually CONNECT to the other WIFI spots? are you going to the internet ? going to a website? are you sure your not using the cellular connection?
if you are able to connect to another WIFI spots and you verify this, i would look at the router again. you can go into the wireless spots you have connected to in the past and click on them and delet them out. THEN when you sniff out the spot again, if your spot is security enabled, just re enter the key.
My suggestion.........make sure MAC address filtration isnt enabled on your router. Clear the DHCP table if you can or have the option to do so. Try making sure it is set to 802.11b ONLY and not a mixed mode of 802.11b/g. Try powercycling the router itself and worse case senario, reset the router.
That was my thought too. Most free wifi hotspots use the old Wifi-B standard and that's all the 6700 can use. If your home router is new, it could be G or N and not easy to connect. Weedahoe is right, it can be done, but know that once a B-device connects it slows down many routers to B and your wife's connection will slow down too. Best not to mention that.
Its true if you are on a B/G/N router it will slow the transfer speeds to the other devices but keep in mind that it is data transfer speeds it slows down and not internet speeds. Most people really dont do a lot of in-hore "true" networking with file sharing setup and those that do still likely do not do a lot of it. So for the most part the average person isnt going to notice a difference. Those that are true about file sharing internally would have a NAS drive incase one PC is down and files are needed to be accessed.
If had the same problem in the past with my wifi router and xv6700. Even unpluging the router for a minute then repluging it in will not help. So, I'v resorted to setting the wifi to a static IP address using the freeware product WiFi Profiles for Windows Mobile. When you install the software, run it and create a new profile entering whatever static address your router will accept. If you have difficulty doing this or don't know what I'm talking about, respond to this and I'll provide greater detail.
Using a static IP address at home is what made it more consistently work for me.
although that idea is one solution, you do not need to go thru all of that to get your phone to connect. you can keep your router the way it is, all you need to do :
turn on wifi on your device
make sure your SSID is broadcasting from your router
let the phone sniff out the SSID
if you have a key, enter it when you get the popup on your phone
try and keep your router "OPEN" and not "SHARED"
make sure you enter the key correctly
set the WLAN setting on your phone to "best performance" instead of "best battery"
now your cooking with gas!
make sure you are broadcasting with b/g (MIXED MODE) and not A or N--although it you have a router that can dual broadcast then just make sure one of the radios is set to b/g mixed..
if anyone STILL needs help, hit me up on one of the IM services and ill get you up and running. there is no need to install any programs to get your device to sniff out your LAN and get connected, its super easy..
